SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Learning in specialties within Medicine, Public Health, Management
Allow interaction with experts/professionals not directly involved with curricular subjects
Exposure to specialties and fields of study not in the curriculum
Allow for self-directed learning interaction between students and faculty
MECHANICS
One clinical, one non-clinical elective during YL8
Clinical Specialty, Public Health, Management Subject to availability
MINIMUM 40 hours (1 unit) for the whole AY, additional hours encouraged
ELECTIVE OPTIONS

Standard Elective
To be offered by TMC departments and consultants, PH and Management faculty
Learning activities and assessment as set by the department/faculty-in-charge
Subject to availability of consultants during the elective period.
Individualized Elective
Student will be responsible for approaching department/faculty
Instructional design and schedule to be determined by both student and faculty
Case-to-case approval by the YL Curriculum Committee and Director for Academic Affairs
Possible Learning Activities
SGD with consultants/residents. Relevant reading assignments and
projects Observership or preceptorials with
consultants during clinic hours and patient rounds.
Resident learning activities (e.g. journal clubs, symposia).
Department patient rounds. Assisting in relevant procedures. ER/OPD duty.
Required Outputs (1 week after Electives)
Elective Grading Sheet (1 per student, by at least 1 consultant)
For Medical Electives Minimum one case report Patient census Signed attendance, certified by EM
For Non-medical Electives Output report/project/paper Signed attendance, certified by EM
Suggested Procedure for Elective Proposal1. Identify desired elective field
2. Identify willing consultant/s as potential Elective Moderator
3. Create draft of learning objectives
4. Approach potential EM
5. Collaborate with EM, edit learning objectives, set schedule and grading requirements
6. Submit proposal to Electives Coordinator
