GemIt is a small semi-precious stone,

sometimes precious, adorned with bas-relief. Here used two basic techniques for relief:

concave and convex. Decoration made in concave relief is called intaglio,

and in the convex relief is called cameo. Gems were particularly popular in Roman art,

especially during the early empire. That was when was made some of the finest examples of their

(Gemma Augustea and Great French Gemma ).

Cameo

This is a gem embellished with a convex relief.Often used a special technique of decorating,

through the use of the properties of some semi-precious stones, consisting of multicolored layers. A darker layer it was background of image

which was created in the brighter layer.
