Vitra is a furniture manufacturer that is committed to the development of healthy, intelligent, inspiring and long-lasting solutions for the office, the home and public spaces. Vitra’s products and concepts are developed in Switzerland as part of a thorough design process that combines the company‘s engineering expertise with the creative spirit of leading international designers. Our goal is to design products with a long lifespan, both in terms of their functions and aesthetic
Sustainability
Increasingly, companies today are judged on the basis of their readiness to accept environmental, social and economic responsibility. However, Vitra does not see that as an obligation that has to be imposed from the outside. Rather, it is a design issue that has always been a part of its own industrial culture. For Vitra, the fact that no damage is caused during the production, use and disposal of a piece of furniture is a natural part of its utility. Carrying on the tradition of thought espoused by Charles & Ray Eames, which has shaped Vitra’s outlook in many ways, means that the company places an emphasis on the durability and longevity of products as part of its contribution to sustainable development – transitory styling is avoided. The clearest examples of this involve the classic designs, which decades later are still up-to-date and in use; they change owners several times and may even end up in a collection

Is an object as elemental as a chair or a table still subject to insight or innovation? After eons of development, is there still something to be done? We say: Absolutely. Everything is in flux –life, culture, technology – and that basic fact demands a considered response. Good design is a synthesis of technique, cost, material, function, use, taste and sustainability. That concentration of meanings, associations and possibilities must reside in simple, singular forms. We believe the best objects carry a rich, intellectual density in a shape that seems natural and effortless. An object that feels spontaneous while clearly the result of rigor and precision. Creating new forms that are physically and stylistically resilient is hard work, but this is the work we embrace. This way of thinking and working – the pursuit of the essential – extends to everything we do.

The company, the beating heart of the Group, is locatedin Osoppo in the province of Udine. Fantoni is a
successful industrial entity on the international marketof in the production of office furniture, chipboard andMDF panels.
From the self-production of energy to the developmentof new materials, from the ergonomic research to
sustainable design, from the production of glues andresins to cultural promotion the circuit is constantlyrenewed as we keep our eye on an unchanging goal:people and their health and comfort.
The historical landmark which features the companyphilosophy is the Multipli project, a range of furnituremeant to meet the requirements of office environmentsdesigned by architect Gino Valle in 1968. This solutionaimed at overcoming the concept of office as a ‘top-
down structure’ in favour of an open system in constantevolution by using modularity of dimensions and
shapes of the different elements, left bare of all uselessdecorative or functional details, including handles.
The basic concept of the Multipli collection with itsunmistakable 45° angle - that visually cancels thethickness of the tops making of the single piece aperfect volume - can be found in most of Fantoni’sboth operative and executive collections.
The plants in Rivoli di Osoppo cover an area of about1 square kilometre and employ a staff of 700 people, whilst the investments made exceed 350 million euros.
