• Kidnapped by pirates– Argued with pirates

that he was worth more that what they were asking

– Taunted the pirates– When he finally was

released he went and had them crucified

rid of the last king of Rome• Father was killed by Pompey the Great when he plotted

in a revolution.• He was an opponent of the First Triumvirate (Cassius,

Pompey and Julius Caesar)• Taken prisoner when civil war broke out and arrested by

Julius Caesar’s men. • Apologized to Julius Caesar and was pardoned.• Agreed to be involved in the assassination once Caesar

was offered the crown three times

• Initially one of Julius Caesar’s strongest supporters.

• Motivated by ambition• He is the one who signaled the attack by asking

for amnesty for his brother

Servilius Casca (aka. Casca)• He and his brother were close friends with Julius

Caesar.• He struck the first blow on Julius Caesar.• Elected Tribune of the Pleb at the time of the

assassination, he was quickly removed from office and fled.

• Eventually defeated with other conspirators by Marc Antony and Octavian, he probably committed suicide.

• Brother of Julius Caesar’s first wife• Went against the dictator Sulla, he had difficulty

advancing in his career until Julius Caesar took over.

• Cinna strongly opposed the ambition and dictatorship of Julius Caesar.

• He did not play a role in Caesar’s assassination.

Gaius Trebonius (Aka. Trebonius)• One of Julius Caesars most trusted generals and

politicians• Became part of the conspiracy• His role in the conspiracy was to keep Marc

Antony out of the way of the assassination.

Quintus Ligarius (Ligarius)• Roman Soldier convicted of treason for having

opposed Julius Caesar in the war in Africa.• He was pardoned and allowed back into Rome

by Julius Caesar.• He did not forgive Julius Caesar for pardoning

him.• Friends with the other conspirators.

Decimus Junius Brutus Albinus (Aka. Decius Brutus)

• Had been Julius Caesars protégé.• Given command of Julius Caesar’s fleet of ships• Named as second heir , next to Octavian, in

Julius Caesar’s will• Senate gave him troops to defeat Marc Antony,

but his soldiers deserted him for Octavian.• Trying to make his way to Marcus Brutus, he was

captured and killed by a Gallic chieftain on Marc Antony’s orders.
