Scooter rider injured in Mangeshi mishapPONDA: A scooterist was injured in an accident thatoccurred at Mangueshi, on Friday. A milk tanker that wastrailing a Dio scooter knocked the rider off the vehicle at adangerous cross junction at Mangeshi. Keshav Gawas (73),the victim and a resident of Kundai, was taken to the GoaMedical College Hospital at Bambolim. Later, the tankerdashed a pole located between the road dividers and turnedturtle.

Woman booked for rash drivingCUNCOLIM: The Cuncolim police have registered offences ofrash driving and causing death by negligence against a 35-year-old Cuncolim resident in connection with the fatalaccident in which police constable Prabakhar Gaonkar losthis life. Ajaysri Vaz Fernandes, a resident of Probswado inCuncolim, has been booked under Sections 304A and 279 ofthe Indian Penal Code. According to police, whileproceeding from Cuncolim to Margao, Ajaysri suddenly tookher Honda City car towards the right side of the road on thestraight NH 17, but later she suddenly attempted to take thecar back on its left hand side; in this process, she dashedagainst an oncoming Pulsar motorcycle ridden by Gaonkar,who lost his balance and banged against a Tata Indigo car.The accident occurred near Hero showroom, Nainea,Culwado, Cuncolim.

One held for stealing two-wheelerPANJIM: Panjim police on Thursday arrested a Maharashtra-native for allegedly stealing a two-wheeler parked near theCustoms Office in the capital. Arun Raghunath Zire (29),residing at Betim is accused of stealing a Suzuki SwissScooter belonging to one Prashant Kolambar, fromCanacona. The stolen property, police said, has beenrecovered at the instance of the accused. “His possibleinvolvement in other bike theft cases is being probed,” apolice official said.

10th agriculture census from June 13PANJIM: The Directorate of Planning, Statistics andEvaluation will conduct the 10th agriculture census 2015-16from July 2016 with the reference year 2015-16. A pilotsurvey is being conducted from June 13 in two villages –Amona in Bicholim Taluka, and Nuvem in Salcete taluka.Enumerators appointed for the task will be visiting theoperational holders in the two villages to gather relateddata. The general public is asked to cooperate with theenumerators.

Seven booked under COPTA in Sanquelim PANJIM: The Joint Mamlatdar-III, Bicholim along with policeconstable conducted raids on June 6 under COTPA Act atSanquelim in Bicholim Taluka and 7 offenders were bookedand fined Rs 1900 for violation of Section 4 and 6 of theCOTPA Act. VASCO: The merchant shipMV Infinity I, which had re-ported distress approxi-mately 20 nautical milesoff Goa coast, was safely es-corted to Karwar harbouron Friday early morning.

According to informa-tion, the 83-metre longvessel with 14 Indian crewmembers (including theMaster) was transitingfrom Kandla port in Gu-jarat and proceeding toKarwar in Karnataka whenit developed a crack in thehull and started taking inwater. She was carrying ap-proximately 1750 tonnesof Asphalt.
