INTRODUCTION:

CASE STUDY: FROG PUBSThis case is written by the Professor Randel Carlock, Berghmants Lhoist chaired professer in Enterprenuerial Leadership. This case is about the two Mba students Paul Chantler and Thor Gudmundsson. These two students were discussing posible business plan for their project of new venture course. In this case study i will discuss about their interprenuerial skills and the problems which they have been face for starting the new venture.

Breif Summary Report:In 1992 the the 2 students of Mba Paul Chantler and Thor Gudmundsson were discussing about their course of new venture. They both want to start a new venture in paris. They were agreed on an idea to open a pub in the paris. They both were agree on this idea after so many ideas. They suggest its name Frog & Rasbif. After their MBA , they thinked for the partnership in this pub.Paul was from a family of doctors and he has studies philosophy. He was also involved in the production side in the theatre. He has also managed the Bar of his college. After his completion of degree he has done a marketing and sales job in a multinatioanl agre base company. Then he wants to do Mba after leaving the job.

Thor was from England and his parents was iceladic. Thor has passed DAE exam then he started a job namura security Company in a finance department. He did 6 years job in this company in finance and administration department. Then he starts MBA with the Paul. They met here and discuss about a new venture. They both dont want to go back for job. They thinks about the partnership. They both enjoys to work togather. Paul was extrovert person but thor was a quite person. They decided they have marketing and sales and finance abilities with their experiance they would start pub with their equal amount of capital and equal percentage of profits. They both settled their problems with debates and arguing but the ending was always be happy. It was going to be a good partnership.

Paul knows that in France their are limited idish pubs. He can open idish pub here. French like to drink beer. They did a market research through going to different pubs. They were very happy because the demand of the beers was increasing rapidly. They wants to start an english pub. But when they survey they they see that their target customers are 25 to 35 years of age and they are professional people who like a silent place where they can met with other peoples and build their relationships. They dont like to go clubs and disco etc. So they study the whole things which can effects their business. They rise their money through loan getting from the bank of france for their joint venture and also an invester invests in their business. They select a place for their pub. But that was very difficult task. They go to different land estates but only one person tell them a way. But that person thinks these are not a proper businessman. They cannot run their business well. After a long time he refused them. They rearch here and there but failed. Atlast they both were become disappointed and they postpone their plan.

Rational:They wants to opened new venture in France. They were entrepreneur because they were going to open a new thing in the france. First time in france, an irish pub will going to open in which they focus on the natural aspects of the beer. Their making of brewing would visible to the people They was consistent and persistent towards his goals. Subsequently, he passed tough time against some odd things. They were have some interprenuerar skills which are as follows.

Marketing and sales skills

Paul have the marketing and sales skills because he also have 4 years relavent experiance in this job.

Trust in success They were having trust in their success because they have done great research and feild work about their project.

Well communicator They were well communicator because they inspire invester and bank manager for loan that was their great achivement.

Transforming self-interests into business interests.

They want to transform their self interest into business by opening their own pub. They dont want to do job.

Self Confidence They were self confidene on their work on project and they want to implement by opening frog pub.

Problems: They have lack of finance this is the big problem which they have been

faced. They did not find the site for their busniess on time. That were just a planner but they did not done any practicle thing. They were not constant on their decision. Whenever they become

disaapointed they thinks to go for job.

Solutions: They overcome the finance problem through an invester and a bank

loan @ 11 %. When they did not find the site they goes to different land estates but

they were failed they did not find the site for their business. They were good planner but they were not good implementor they

tried very much to implement but they failed.

They tried alot to start it but they become disappointed at the end they were fed up with this project and they leave this project.

Recommandation: They should done their planning according to their financial position

and their total resources. They have needed of 808,000 £ but at that time they have only 37500 £ each. They arranged this big amount very difficulty. They should plan according to their capacity and financial position. If they start a small business then they can be work well through development of their project.

They should convinve the person who promised them to give them land for the frog pubs. They should select their site before their fund raising they were looking for the land on rent. Due to unavailability they should go for purchasing the land.

They just focus on planing and debating among each other they should implement their thoughts into reality and they should be planned things according to their pocket size.

They were not consistant on their thoughts they again and again alter their ideas and purpose according to the situations.

They should utilize good time management skills on every situations and every phase of project. Like if they start to find site on time they can find it. And also if they increase their capital before they can start their project.

They should create the awareness to the site owner about the Irish pubs and also should show them their interpersonal skills, ground work, survey and analysis about the frog pubs.
