NEW DELHI, June 11:

The CVC will check delay ingiving vigilance clearance toGovernment officials for their pro-motion and empanelments, itsnewly-appointed Vigilance Comm-issioner T M Bhasin said today.

Besides, the Central VigilanceCommission (CVC) will also takesteps to check vexatious com-plaints of corruption against theGovernment officials.

CMD who took over as newVigilance Commissioner in theCVC today, took a review meetinghere with the Commission officials.

“We will look for ways tocheck delay in granting vigilanceclearance to officials,” he saidafter taking over the new charge.

The clearance by CVC isneeded for promotion and empan-elment of Group A officials andsenior functionaries in public sec-tor banks and enterprises.

Bhasin said the Commissionwill take steps to stop vexatiouscomplaints of corruption againstthe Government officials. “Asper decision from theDepartment of Personnel andTraining (DoPT), we do not takeany action on anonymous cor-ruption complaints. We will takemore steps to check vexatiouscomplaints,” he said.

Bhasin was on Mondayappointed as the VigilanceCommissioner by PresidentPranab Mukherjee for a periodof four years.

He was administered theoath of office by K V Chowdary,who joined as Central VigilanceCommissioner yesterday, CVCofficials said.

Bhasin, who demitted officeof Indian Bank CMD yesterday,has an outstanding unblemishedand impeccable professional serv-ice record of over 37 years in thefields of banking, finance, law,vigilance and investigations.

The CVC, country’s anti-corruption watchdog, is headedby a Central VigilanceCommissioner and has twoVigilance Commissioners.

Rajiv, former Director Generalof Central Industrial SecurityForce, is the other VigilanceCommissioner in CVC.

Bhasin holds LL.B, MBA

(Finance), Certified Associate ofIndian Institute of Bankers(CAIIB) and M.Sc (gold medal-ist), degrees. He had joinedOriental Bank of Commerce as aProbationary Officer in June 1978and rose to the rank of GeneralManager in September 2003.

Consequent upon rigorousselection process by the CentralGovernment and RBI, Bhasin wasselected and appointed asExecutive Director of UnitedBank of India in November, 2007.

He was elevated as theChairman and ManagingDirector (CMD) of Indian Bankin April, 2010.

Bhasin had been Chairman,Indian Banks’ Association(IBA); Chairman GoverningBoard, Institute of BankingPersonnel Selection (IBPS);President, Indian Institute ofBanking and Finance (IIBF);and Member, National Board forMicro, Small & MediumEnterprises, among others.(PTI)
