Masaccio was born (as Tommaso di Ser Giovanni do Simone) 1375 and died in the autumn of 1401 at the age of 26. Little is known of his death. He was considered the greatest painter in the Quattrocento (400th) Period of the Italian Renaissance. According to Vasari (Another Renaissance artist) it was due to his skill at recreation of human movements and ability to convey a sense of three dimensionality.
