Transcript of Forest schools making bird hides

Forest School

Tuesday 13th March

Week 3

Mrs Misselbrook asked us to sit quietly and listen very carefully to the sounds around us. We realised that there are lots of birds in the forest.

We made bird hides with tarpaulin sheets tied to trees with strings, and we disguised them with leaves, branches and dried pine needles.

We made them quite cosy inside!

We had to hunt for open pine cones. We were using them to make our natural bird feeders.

Some people managed to find really large cones.

String was tied around the pine cones so that we could hang them up from trees.

Next we pushed lard fat into and around the pine cone. It was very messy!

Not everybody liked the feeling of squishing the fat between their fingers!

The cones were rolled in a bag of bird seed. The seed stuck to the fat.

It was fun finding good places to hang our bird feeders in the forest.

Time at the end to play a game of ’Stealth’.

Can you see who is hiding?
