Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic
Surgery
The experts at Denton Regional Medical Center provide some of the
most advanced minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgeries in the area.
As pioneers in beating heart procedures, over 95% of our procedures
are performed off-pump. We are also the first hospital in the area to
offer robot-assisted cardiothoracic surgery.
MiNiMALLY iNVASiVE CARDiOTHORACiC RObOTiC SURGERY
Denton Regional Medical Center is proud to introduce the new
DA VINCI SI SURGICAL SYSTEM, the latest advancement in
minimally invasive robotic surgery. This system has several unique
features designed to provide additional clinical benefits and efficiency
in the operating room which translate into benefits for the patient.
These benefits include:
• Less invasive procedures
• Reduced recovery times
• Increased precision, accuracy and control
• Less blood loss & need for transfusion
• Less pain & risk of infection
• Shorter hospital stay
• Better patient outcomes
TOTALLY ENDOSCOpiC CORONARY ARTERY bYpASS (TECAb)
TOTALLY ENDOSCOPIC CORONARY ARTERY BYPASS (TECAB)
is the next generation of minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery. It
utilizes the least invasive surgical procedure available, using a closed
approach that does not require a sternotomy or rib spreading. In
addition, recent studies show that this surgical method offers the
following benefits:
• 99% patency at 1 year vs. 80% with open surgery – with superior
target vessel graft patency
• 2 to 7 fewer days in the hospital
• Nearly an 85% reduction in major adverse cardiac/
cerebrovascular events (MACCE) in the year following surgery
• An average of 61% reduction in intubation time
MiTRAL VALVE REpAiR
DA VINCI MITRAL VALVE REPAIR (MVR) offers an extremely effective
treatment of mitral valve prolapse while using the least invasive
surgical approach available. In addition to the typical benefits provided
by minimally invasive robotic surgery, studies have also shown that da
Vinci MVR can result in a significantly higher valve repair rate (greater
than 95%) compared to traditional surgery.

Minimally Invasive
LObECTOMY
DA VINCI LOBECTOMY represents the state-of-the-art approach for
surgical removal of primary malignant lesions, metastatic lesions and
benign lesions of the peripheral and central lung.
Use of the da Vinci system allows formal, anatomical resection, along
with complete mediastinal lymph node dissection – the gold standard
treatment for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer. This approach
provides effective treatment without the need for a formal thoracotomy
(open technique), or video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS technique),
and provides the following benefits:
• Reduced cancer reoccurrence and mortality in advanced disease
• Faster return of pulmonary function
• Reduced pain and postoperative neuralgia
THYMECTOMY
DA VINCI THYMECTOMY provides a new and less invasive approach
for the surgical removal of the thymus. This procedure utilizes smaller
incisions, resulting in less pain and scaring, shorter hospital stays, and
a faster recovery.

INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY
As Denton’s only Cycle III Accredited Chest Pain Center, no other hospital is better prepared in a cardiac
emergency. We utilize the latest in cath lab technology and partner with local EMS units to provide
technology that allows the transmission of EKG’s from the field to our facility. As a result, our door-to-balloon
time is consistently better than the national average.

WOMEN’S CENTER
For many complex hysterectomies and other gynecologic procedures,
robot-assisted surgery with the DA VINCI SI SURGICAL SYSTEM
may be the most effective, least invasive treatment option. Through
tiny, 1-2 cm incisions, surgeons can operate with greater precision and
control, minimizing the pain and risk associated with large incisions
while increasing the likelihood of a fast recovery and excellent clinical
outcomes.
HYSTERECTOMY FOR bENiGN CONDiTiONS
Compared to conventional laparoscopy, the DA VINCI SI SURGICAL
SYSTEM allows surgeons to treat more pathology minimally invasively,
improving safety and reproducibility. This includes patients with
adhesive disease, large pathology and obesity. Other benefits of
robot-assisted hysterectomy for benign conditions include:
• Greater access, precision, and control for improved dissections
• Quicker, easier suturing during vaginal cuff closure
• Control of the camera and all three operative arms for the ultimate
in surgical autonomy and efficiency
• Minimized need for conversions and the need for
total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH)

HYSTERECTOMY FOR EARLY STAGE GYNECOLOGiC CANCER
For patients diagnosed with early stage endometrial cancer,
DA VINCI HYSTERECTOMY FOR ENDOMETRIAL CANCER enables
the surgeon to provide the most precise, comprehensive, minimally
invasive surgical approach for removal of the uterus, para-aortic
and pelvic lymph nodes. The improved dexterity and unsurpassed
visualization provided by the da Vinci Si Surgical System may allow
surgeons to:
• Treat early stage endometrial cancer safely and reproducibly
using a minimally invasive approach, even for obese and morbidly
obese women
• Perform a comprehensive cancer surgery and staging procedure
while preserving radicality
• Have improved access, precision and control during the
procedure
• Simplify postoperative care and reduce length-of-stay by
minimizing trauma, pain and complications
• Expedite the initiation of adjuvant therapy as a result of fast
recovery
MYOMECTOMY
DA VINCI MYOMECTOMY represents a state-of-the-art surgical
approach that enables gynecologists to perform uterine-preserving
procedures minimally invasively, reproducibly and following open
surgical technique — with far greater surgical precision, efficiency and
confidence in the durability of the uterine repair. The da Vinci System’s
high-definition 3D visualization, wristed instrumentation, and intuitive
motion allows surgeons to perform a more precise, durable uterine
repair while extending the benefits of minimally invasive surgery to
more patient types for improved outcomes and satisfaction.
SACROCOLpOpExY
DA VINCI® SACROCOLPOPEXY utilizes an advanced minimally
invasive approach to the surgical correction of vaginal vault or
uterine prolapse by resupporting the vagina to the sacrum using
a polypropylene mesh. Benefits of robot-assisted sacrocolpopexy
include:
• Improved access to the pelvis compared to open and
conventional laparoscopic approaches
• Easier, more precise rectovaginal and presacral dissections
• Improved handling of suture and mesh for more accurate graft
placement and attachment
