PLANTAR FASCIITIS

Most common cause of foot & heel pain

It is due to irritation and inflammation of tight tissue that

forms the arch of the foot

COMPLAINTS

Pain under the heelSevere pain & inability to

walk in morning after getting from sleep

Same pain in heel after sitting for long time and

getting up to walk

Pain gets better after taking few steps

Worsening pain after prolonged standing/walking

DIAGNOSIS

Tenderness / pain at the bottom of heel on pressing

X ray may show a bony spur .But it may not cause any

symptoms

Pain behind the foot rather than underneath

Causes are 1. Achilles' tendinitis

(Irritation of tendon)2. Retrocalcaneal bursitis

COMPLAINTS

Pain behind heel

Severe pain & inability to walk in morning after getting from sleep

Pain gets better after taking few steps

DIAGNOSIS

-Tenderness / pain back of heel on pressing-bony or firm hard swelling may be seen on back side of heel

-X ray may show a bony spur back of heel bone .-But it may not cause any symptoms

TREATMENT OPTIONS

• Anti-inflammatory medications

• Exercises & stretches

• Ice packs• Rest

nNot all of these treatments are appropriate for every condition, but they may be helpful in your situation.

Rest

• Avoid precipitating activity

• Take few days off jogging prolonged standing/walking.

• Can reduce severity of pain & allow inflammation to cool down.

Ice packs

• Can reduce severity of pain

• Usually helpful in acute conditions.

inflammation
