Live blogging from a conference

What are we talking about today?

!   Stories connect people and science is full of them!

!   Blogs can significantly increase readership of science papers

!   Grab us with your headline, image and first paragraph

Key messages from blogging webinar #1

Blogging at a conference

1)   Pace yourself – blogging is tiring. 1 or 2 stories per day is more than enough, especially if it is your first time

2)   Prepare. Read the abstracts, you can contact the scientists ahead of time to

check if they’d like their work at the conference to be blogged. 3)  Ask presenters if they want to review the post BUT let them know you are

on deadline. 4)  Don’t post figures without permission 5)   Ask questions, interview presenters if you need more material. (take lots of

notes or record sessions to make it easier to include direct quotes) 6)  You can write more than one story on a session. 7)  When the post is published, send presenters a link to it.

Same presentation, two stories
