WEEK OF JUNE 17, 2009
What a week! The church is full of excitement and energy. Vacation Bible School is upon us. It’s like a controlled tornado
moving through. We’re hoping and trusting God to show off in the lives of the children!
We had a great Ministry Roundtable this past Saturday. We discussed what it means to be a disciple and how we as a church can become
stronger as disciple-makers. Please pray for the ministry team as we seek
the Lord’s direction concerning our fall ministries.
Brian Dailey has now begun as our Minister of Music and Senior Adults. I
want to praise the Lord for the wonderful team that God has assembled here at First Lyman. I am so excited about working with Brian and Ricky
as we trust the Lord to show us His will and His way for His church. The future holds tremendous blessings. Each of you are such a part of the
blessing of this church. God wants you to experience the blessing, but He
also intends for you to be a part of blessing others. Please join us this Sunday. Maybe it’s been a while since you’ve been a part of a Sunday
School class; come this week and see what you’ve been missing.
I love you all. It’s a great joy to pastor such a wonderful fellowship. God
is so good!
God bless,
Pastor Scott

Wow! It has been a good week at VBS! Isn’t it neat to see how God
“showed off” there?! This is a happening summer for both the Children’s
and the Student Ministries! The children are going hiking with Hayley
(I think that’s what we should call it!) on Saturday, June 27. You guys will
not want to miss that! It’s going to be totally “avesome” (you know who you are…).
Several important things are coming up for the Student Ministry in the next couple of
weeks. First of all, if you are planning on going on our mission trip at the end of July, I need
your application (available on the Student Ministry page of the website) ASAP—as in
yesterday :) . We have several activities we’re going to participate in to work off the cost of
the trip, so the sooner you register the better—especially since it’s already past the deadline!!
This Friday night (June 19) is going to be awesome. The guys are going to be manly
men and make fire and eat meat (“No Girls Allowed!!”) at Tollie’s house, and the girls will
be having some tasty Zaxby’s and some “girls only” time in the mission house or as we now
call it, “No Man’s Land.” These are both happening at 6:30. All moms of youth are
welcome to join the girls at 9 for dessert; all dads of youth are welcome to hang out with us
from 6:30 on. And Pastor Scott has a special word for all the dads, so you won’t want to miss that!
Monday (June 22), the students are heading to Sliding Rock (hurry up and sign up!!).
And then on June 27, we’re having a mission trip training day from 9-12. This training is
mandatory for all who are going on the summer mission trip (again, hurry up and sign up).
The only acceptable excuses for not coming would be a) I was in the hospital and/or
critically ill, or b) My really awesome parents took me on a ridiculously cool vacation. In
such circumstances, due penance and free will offerings shall be deemed acceptable
replacements for your absence.
And don’t forget! Summer camp is fast approaching (June 29-July 3). Be looking for a
mailout with some paperwork to get back to me! And if you still haven’t paid, we need your
money ASAP, again as in yesterday!
Summer is in full swing, peeps! Hang on tight—it’s going to be an awesome ride!
Ricky

Dear Church Family- I want to say thank you for all the calls, cards, prayers, and visits while I was in the hospital and
rehab. I especially appreciate the visits from Pastor Scott, Jimmy McMillan, and Rick Stark. Last, but not least, I would like to thank my wonderful deacons, Marty Brown and Buddy Smith. I couldn’t ask for more caring deacons. I hope to be back in church soon. God bless my wonderful church. Love, Hazel Drake Pastor Scott & Church Family- Thank you for remembering me and my family. It is awesome to have such a loving church. Vrenda Morrow
Don’t forget to pray for our adopted missionary Alissa Stewart, who is serving in Uganda!

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone here at
First Lyman for the wonderful welcome Leigh-Ann, Katy, Emma
Grace, and I have received during our first few weeks here. We
have been on a journey for a while now, praying and asking
God
where He would have us serve Him.
We feel so blessed that through that journey, God led us
right here to Lyman. What an incredible place to serve! I feel, as I believe
all of us do, that God is about to do something amazing in this church, and
in this community, and He has chosen all of us to be a part of it together!
I am so excited to be here with you and to have the privilege of serving
alongside Scott and Ricky is beyond words. I love these guys so much
already, and can’t wait to see what lies ahead! To God be the glory, great
things He has done—and will continue to do!
