OXLIP+: LOGGING IN

For full functionality you must log in to Oxlip+ (especially important if you are off campus)

Key - Database requires a password. Get the password from old Oxlip (Go to http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/oxlip and choose the database from the titles A-Z to see the password). Alternatively email law.library@bodley.ox.ac.uk for the password

Green arrow - Database requires “thin client software”. Follow the link to load the software. NOTE – you will only need to do this once.

Browsing results

•Magnifying glass - indicates that a database can be “cross searched” within Oxlip+

•Most legal databases can not be searched from Oxlip+

• Cross search results are generally not as good as results from the “native interface” (ie results gained by searching the databases’ own interface).

The padlock icon displays when you are off campus to show that you can not access databases. To get into databases log in to Oxlip+, the padlock will then disappear and you will be given full access.

Yellow flag shows that you will need to log in using your Oxford single sign on – even if you have already logged into Oxlip+ This is necessary for Lexis Nexis Butterworths.

Find database: by keywords or other options

Pick subject

Enter keywords

Pick resource type (e.g. Full text, journal, web site etc)

•Searches the description, title and keywords in the “information” panel for each database •Does not search the contents of the database•Use it to find a databases suitable for your subject, not to conduct a literature search.

Results

OXLIP+: CROSS SEARCH

Most legal databases can not be cross searched. This options is only available for a small set of specialist databases. In the future cross searching may be available for Index to Legal Periodicals and Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals but not yet.

Choose “Law” from the subject list

Only databases with a check box may be cross searched. Check up to 5 resources

to cross search simultaneously.

BEWARE - Cross search results are generally not as good as results from the “native interface” (ie results gained by searching each databases own interface
