Meet with a career counselor to discuss how to search for an internship in your eld.
Sign up for a listserv.
A listserv is an electronic mailing system; it will allow you to select speci c subjects/areas of study/interests and will send you
periodic no ca ons for job announcements or events. For example, you may nd an “aerospace engineering” listserv. Check
you host university website and career services website to sign up. Contact them directly if you cannot nd the listserv.
A end an internship/career fairMany employers set up booths to inform students about their company. This could give you ideas about where to search foran internship. For an example of what a career fair is, visit: h p://www.careercenter.illinois.edu/career%20fairs . Do not rely
on internship/career fairs to secure Academic Training! They rarely lead to posi ons; you should use them as a way to make
contacts and get ideas.

Keep a list of companies that you are interested in.
You may hear about these companies from friends, news ar cles, program alumni, professors, other students, your career
services center, and other resources.
Check the websites of these companies frequently and check their career/job page to see if they have any pos ngs for
internship or research opportuni es.
Databases are great resources to search for internships! You can:
Use keywords to search for academic training opportuni es (as well as loca on if you like).
Sign up for daily alerts for opportuni es related to your eld.

-Contain career development advice for your speci c eld.
-List members that may be companies you’d be interested in interning with and can research further.

-Search for companies and AT opportuni es in your eld of study.
-Join groups that interest you and are relevant to your search
2. Consult Professors and Advisors
Speak with your professors in Brazil and at your host ins tu on in the U.S. Ask them if they have any connec ons or
sugges ons on where to look for Academic Training. They may have colleagues at universi es in the U.S. who are looking forresearch interns over the summer in your eld of study, or they may have contacts that work in companies in the U.S. who
would be able to advise you as you search for internships or even put you in touch with people at their company that wouldlike to host an intern.

Most companies look for business/administra on/ nance interns! Check any company site listed above or that
you nd on your own for opportuni es. All companies have fundamental business needs. Do not limit your search to
companies that deal speci cally with business. Search for business opportuni es in all kinds of companies and organiza-
ons.

Network! Business is largely based on networking. Employers like to see (in person) that you have the skills necessary to
