DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Annual Report 2011-2012
AIESEC en el mundo
AIESEC in the Dominican Republic was found-
ed at the end of 1987. At the beginning of that year, by orders of AIESEC International,
AIESEC in Puerto Rico worked hard to create a great project : the extension of AIESEC in the
neighboring island.
In november 7 , 1987 ,the first committee of AIESEC in the Dominican Republic was formal-
ly made, after a tough job performed by the Head of Aiesec in Puerto Rico , Renee Orta.
Days later the first project began , a confer-ence titled "La devaluación del peso: causas y
consecuencias".
Our objective has adapted during the past 20 years, to youth empowerment and the devel-
opment of agents of change. However, we have also adapted our approach to the needs
of the changing market.
In 1988, at the international congress host-
ed in Boston , USA, AIESEC in Dominican Republic was officially accepted at an inter-
national level. During that year , many im-portant projects were carried out, such as
the conference "La computadora en la em-
presa moderna y la comunicación", and the first computing fair , a fair that joined to-
gether important companies in the field through talks, expositions , and book sell-
ing. A training program for new members was
created internally and the AISEC Constitu-
tion was approved in the Dominican Re-public during the first National Congress,
and the national committee officially split from UNPHU's local committee.
We are glad to collaborate with other two
local committees of Dominican Republic:
Santo Domingo and Santiago.
secuencias".
Domingo y Santiago.

Carta del Presidente
Today we finish the road we
started one year ago in AIESEC Dominican Republic, during this
time we had success and failure but we learned from all the expe-
rience. Today, we finish a year of
work of the MC 2011/2012, dur-ing this year this team made a
huge effort in order to develop our organization.
I am very proud to present the annual report of AIESEC in the
Dominican Republic, in the next
pages you will see our different activities and the development of
our organization, also it will make the readers more aware of the
current reality of AIESEC in the
Dominican Republic. What we achieved during this year is the
product of the hard work of a lot of people, I want to thank my team for their hard
work during our term, to the Executive Board for their patience in the implementa-
tion of the new programs, to our National
Partners for their valuable support, to our Alumni for their advice and best wishes and
finally to our members because without them, AIESEC would not exist.
After living for two years in the Dominican
Republic I discovered a country with a lot of happiness, a country that wants a better
future, but the main asset of the Dominican Republic is its people. All these good things
about the Dominican Republic should be
part also of our organization. Told this, I invite you to be part of a brand new
AIESEC, we want to achieve new goals and we have never been so ambitious.
Thanks for all your support! Enjoy reading the annual report.

reporte anual.

―When dreams meet courage they be-
come – your Reality. Living an experience through a national committee abroad was
a dream, to live it in Dominican Republic,
it took courage. To finish it and to be proud of what you have done, to be glad
of people you meet, of friends you have made, of places you
have seen, of challenges you
have faced, for me this was 1 year of living an unforgettable
experience with the National Board of AIESEC in the Dominican Repub-
lic‖.
The Member Committee is the national executive board of AIESEC Dominican Republic that connects the activities of the AIESEC local committees all around the country, supporting the local head offices (Executive Boards) and managing the development of national strategies. The strategic development, exchange management, talent management, financial management, brand manage-ment, information management and conference management services that the National Committee provides supports the local committees in maintaining alignment and efficiency regarding process-es, which leads to the formation of a higher number of quality AIESEC Experiences. The National Executive Board of AIESEC Dominican Republic in 2011/2012 was composed of 4 members from:
EVELIN PANI
Vice-President of Talent Management
and Local Committee Development
Home country: Estonia
―The year in the MC has been full of personal
and professional challenges, achievements and failures, sharing nice time with people and hav-
ing conflicts, lots of work and loads of fun and so and on. As you can see it has been a year of
controversy but that is how you will learn the
most and this is the main personal benefit of being part of the MC. I think right now I am
not able to understand everything I have expe-rienced and learned during the year and for
sure this will be a year I will never forget!

afrontar conflictos, mucho trabajo y diver-sión inacabable.

―AIESEC has been the best professional
experience that I have lived, thanks to AIESEC I have met many people from a lot
of countries that have enriched my life with culture, languages and friends. I recom-

hecho, haber conocido gente y lugares nuevos, formado nuevas amistades,

LOCAL COMMITTEES
Annual Report 2011-2012
Comites Locales
In Santo Domingo AIESEC is present in two
universities: APEC and PUCMM. There have been small activities and we have some
members from other universities as well but the main focus is on those two universities.
The term started by having a full member LC
in APEC and having an extension LC in PUCMM. LC APEC lost its full membership
status during the term due to not fulfilling the criteria and PUCMM was not able to re-
ceive full membership status due to not ful-filling the criteria.
As both LCs have faced challenges during the
term and there was not a sufficient leader-ship pipeline for the new EB term, in the
middle of the term a decision was taken to have one EB for both entities in Santo Do-
mingo. This means that there are still official-
ly two entities but one leadership body and common goals. The decision was taken to
help both LCs to grow stronger together. In the end of the term there will be an evalua-
tion of the decision and how the entities will continue will be decided.
Main successes + Achieving Impact exchange project and
cooperation with Brazil in PUCMM (AIESEC in PUCMM SD)
+ Increase in EP applications and realization
in PUCMM + Increase in media appearances
Main challenges
-Conflicts and EB members quitting in both
entities -Low exchange results in APEC
-No sustainable ER responsible in APEC -Low motivation and responsibility among
members
2011/2012 was a year of great results for
the AIESEC local committee in Santiago. It was the only local committee that kept its
full membership status during this year and registered a growth in results of exchanges,
external activities, students applications,
number of people in the executive board and internal activities of members.
+ AIESEC Santiago is the leading com-
mittee in outgoing exchange results, in number of applicants, raising and realiza-
tion;
+ April 2011-April 2012 Executive Board was
composed of 3 members (President, Vice-President Communication and Vice President
Exchange);
+ April 2012 – present Executive
Board counts 5 members (president, vice-president outgoing exchange, vice-president
incoming exchange, vice-president commu-nication, vice-president talent management);
+ The first local committee that imple-mented Globex Program and was the
leader in Outgoing Exchange applica-tions;
+ The local committee that registered the highest number of student applications
during members recruitment (30 online applications in 10 days) in 2011/2012;
+ Good financial situation during the whole year;
+ Increase in media appearances;
+ Well prepared EB members;
in Santo Domingo AIESEC in Santiago
ed externos, aplicaciones de estudiantes, can-
de Intercambios);
+ Abril 2012-presente El Comite Ejecutivo
cuenta con 5 miembros (Presidente, Vice-Presidente Intercambios Salientes, Vice-
Presidente Intercambios Entrantes, Vice-Presidente Comunicacion, Vice-Presidente Ges-
tion Talento);
practica el Globex Program y fue lider en programas de Intercambios Salientes;
2011/2012;
+ Buena situacion monetaria durante todo el
año;
+ Aumento en presencia periodistica;
+ Buena formacion de miembros del
Comite Ejecutivo;

"For me it was a challenge because I had never lived alone and in a country that
doesn’t speak the same language that I do. The truth is that this is an experience that I wouldn’t change for anything in the world, I liked everything of Turkey, my
roommates, food, culture, lifestyle, religion, nightlife. I met many trainees from many different countries, we used to go to visit the city and enjoy all the wonders that it

―My experience was amazing and I really
felt that I made an impact! I have no words
to describe it! When I got to Dominican
Republic, I already felt home. I loved the
weather, the food, the nature and especial-

place where people are warm, receptive
and are always trying to help you, smiling
and dancing the ―Merengue‖! And the best
part is that I won a new family, my host
family, that was amazing and they took
care of me so well! My job was to work in

―Achieving Impact‖ is the FIRST
project launched by AIESEC Domin-ican Republic in 2011 and gathers
together all the partner NGOs from all over the country and per-
fectly combines two different but
progressive trends at the same time: the increasing importance of SO-
CIAL RESPONSIBILITY and IN-TERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERING.
At the beginning of 2012 the Achiev-ing Impact project received its first 4
trainees from Brazil, as the Domini-
can Republic was one of the winners of Brazil’s going Global program of
AIESEC. The partners of the Achieving Im-
pact Project in 2011/2012 were
City Hall of Santo Domingo
which received 2 trainees and
Ayuntamientos Juveniles e In-
fantiles from San Jose de Ocoa.

te sentí que pude hacer un cambio! No

Caribbean Paradise is a National
Project of AIESEC Dominican Repub-lic launched in 2012 that is oriented
towards the Hotels/Hostels sec-tor of Dominican Republic. The
project’s partners have the possibility
to receive trainees from one of 110 countries where AIESEC is present,
with the language they require for a maximum duration of 3 months and
with a small fee of 50 us $ for each trainee. The food and accommoda-
tion are covered by the Hotel/Hostel.
To the trainees the project offers the opportunity to do an internship
for a duration of maximum 3 months, to gain knowledge about work in a
hotel/hostel and at the same time to
enjoy the beauty of Dominican life in the Caribbean Paradise.
Through my internship in the Caribbe-
an Paradise Project, not only did I
learn about the Latin American-
Caribbean culture, I got the chance to
work in an entrepreneurial environ-
ment, develop marketing campaigns
and partnerships for a new hostel,
hosted events and met tourists from
different countries. The best part of it
all, I began learning Spanish. This
project is ideal for open minded indi-
viduals who are very sociable and cre-
ative! It's a great opportunity to look
at a different angle of the Caribbean
tourism industry which is predomi-
nately composed of large chain hotels
& resorts. - Annette Lawrence,

―I arrived on December 30th, and I had
the most wonderful new year’s evening on the 31st, walking through Santo Domingo’s
streets and watching the sunrise at the Malécon. I stayed in the city of San José
de Ocoa and I worked with a UNICEF pro-
ject called ―Ayuntamientos Juveniles e In-fantiles‖, in which several kids participated.
The children learnt how to participate in politics and they had the opportunity to
develop various social works in their com-munity. Besides helping Ocoa’s Ayun-
tamiento Juvenil e Infantil with their com-
munitarian work, I formed a cultural group with the kids. In the group I gave dancing classes, taught them some
Brazilian dances, gave singing classes, and we also had Portuguese classes. With all of this experience I had the
opportunity to share things that I know, but I also learnt
a lot from this. I recommend everyone to take the chal-lenge of a travel like mine, in which you’ll have the op-
portunity to live another culture and learn from it, as well as showing the world your culture. And for those who are
willing to go forward in this adventure remember: be open minded, be open to new experiences, and try eve-
rything, no prejudices! Thanks to everyone who was pre-
sent in my internship and gave me the best two months anyone could have! - Tassiana Viera, Brazilian train-
ee from AIESEC Brazil.

celebración de año nuevo maravillosa;
caminando en las calles de Santo Domingo
y viendo el amanecer en el malecón. Me

AIESEC Dominicana. ** expresado in US$
* Details of 2012 operations can be found on Financial reports pre-
sented by the MC by mail. ** Represents US$
*** Income in 2011 is smaller due to the fact the country did not or-
ganize fund raising events (there will be in the future).
Income and expenses
65% of the income was generated through AIESEC core activities, in this case through our Exchange program, on the other hand the non-operational expenses were gener-ated by the renting of rooms of the MC flat for trainees. 75% of the expenses were earmarked for the payment of Fix Costs to AIESEC Inter-national. The country should pay around 900 Euros per year to this entity. Finally, salaries represented 14% of the expenses for this term.
During this year the incomes generated by the Ex-
change program went up, the main reason for this
increase was the higher number of OGX Exchanges
and more diverse destinations for Dominicans in the
program. Also, there was a decrease in the income
by ICX, this was due to the small decrease in the
number of exchanges in this field. Finally we have
to mention that our local entities generated their
own income and they supported the MC paying the
AIESEC International Fees for the first time.
