Total kilometers of roadway network about 210/000 Kmand total kilometers of national roads and under jurisdiction of ministry of road and transportation is 81661 km which will be following classification:

Intergovernmental agreements on Asian Highways (11700 km) have been signed & ratified & are under construction by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
4 routes of Asian Highway including AH8, AH70, AH72 and AH 78 are located in North-South corridor.
These routes with total length of 1142, 1390, 1156, and 1033 km .
This routes are connected to the main ports of the country like Bandar Abbas and Chabahar.

•The main entrances of the country in North are Jolfa and Astara (border with Azerbaijan), Nordouz (border with Armenia), Anzali and Amirabad (Caspian Sea), Incheboroun, Bajgiran and Sarakhs (border with Turkmenistan).
• Also, AH82 and AH1 routes enter the country via borders of Jolfa (Azerbaijan), Nordouz (Armenai) and Nakhjavan (Azerbaijan) and joint the North- South Corridor via Jolfa- Ivoghli (AH82) and Ivoghli- Qazvin (AH1).
On East- West route, AH1 and AH2 are respectively 2103 and 2269 km. in length. AH1 enters the country through Bazargan border point (border with Turkey) and ends to Dogharoun (border with Afghanistan) after crossing Tabriz, Zanjan, Qazvin, Semnan, Damghan, Sabzevar and Mashad.AH2 also starts from Khosravi (border with Iraq) and ends to Mirjaveh (border with Pakistan) after crossing Kermanshah, Hamedan, Salafchegan, Qom, Naien, Yazd, Kerman and Zahedan. To be noted that Qazvin-Saveh route (AH8) connects AH1 and AH2 which are used for transportation of goods from Europe (Turkey) to South Asia (through Pakistan)

Islamic Republic of Iran has given a priority to upgrading the existing roads of Asian Highway Network and has made noticeable measures in this regard. All these actions have been taken/are being taken using national budget and credit. All procedures related to study, implementation, contracting and etc. have been carried out by domestic engineers and experts.Some of the actions taken by the Islamic Republic of
Iran in the framework of the Asian Highway are as follows:

Polezal - Andimeshk, Bandarabbas - Sirjan,Isfahan East bypass. Tehran - Ghom- Mashhad,Isfahan - Shiraz,Tabriz – BazarganBostanabad-Tabriz .
