Fifth Grade

Dear  Students,    Welcome  to  5th  Grade!  We  are  going  to  have  a  wonderful  school  year  together.  This  summer,  you  will  review  and  practice  the  essential  Math  and  English  skills  necessary  for  a  successful  fifth  grade  experience.    Attached  you  will  find  your  summer  work.      For  reading,  please  choose  ONE  of  the  following  books  to  enjoy  over  summer  vacation:  Wonder  by  RJ  Palacio  or  The  Wanderer  by  Sharon  Creech.      Please  answer  the  comprehension  questions  that  go  with  your  book  choice,  attached.  Your  work  is  DUE  upon  arrival  on  the  First  Day  of  School!  Please  also  be  prepared  to  take  an  AR  test  upon  your  return  to  school.    Guidelines  for  Guided  Reading  Questions:    

∑ Work  is  to  be  typed,  14  pt.  font  ∑ Proper  heading  in  upper  left  hand  corner  ∑ Answers  in  complete  sentences  ∑ Correct  spelling,  grammar,  and  punctuation

Summer  Work,  Grade  5    Summer  work  at  St.  Raymond  is  an  important  component  of  the  academic  program.      The  purpose  of  summer  work  is:    1)  Provide  specific  instructional  practice  on  those  essential  standards  for  entry  into  the  next  grade  level,  and  2)  Provide  structured  practice  of  essential  skills.      Summer  work  is  part  of  the  Q1  grade  and  is  required  for  all  students.    I.  Math  Curriculum  Review  (4  assignments/week  until  complete)  Source:  Accelerated  Math  2.0  Standards,  Skills  and  Subskills:
