Youth mental health in Indiana:

• • For students in grades 9-12, the Indiana Youth Survey found 30.5% of Indiana’s high school students felt sad or hopeless almost every day for two or more consecutive weeks during 2016.

• • Of the Hoosier youths ages 12-17 who experienced a major depressive episode from 2010-2014, only 37.6% received treatment.

• Indiana ranks 3rd out of 37 states in the percentage of high school students who seriously considered attempting suicide.

• Indiana ranks 2nd out of 34 states in the percentage of students who made a suicide plan.

• 41.6 % of respondents indicated anxiety is the top presenting concern among college students. 2013 Association for University and College Counseling Centers Director Survey
