The flower for the month of June
is the rose. The rose, especially
a red rose, is perhaps the most
universal symbol of romantic love
in the world, although according
to “the language of flowers,” it can
mean different things. For example,
a yellow rose indicates platonic love,
a dark pink rose signifies
gratitude, and a white rose
symbolizes purity.
Roses are also the emblem
of the Egyptian god Horus,
who was thought of as a
god of silence. Similarly,
Aphrodite gave a rose to
her son, Eros, to ensure his
silence concerning matters
of the gods when dealing
with mortals. Because the
rose had been adopted as
a symbol of silence, Romans
referred to secret meetings
and clandestine affairs as
having been conducted “sub
rosa,” which translates to
“under the rose.”
Flower of the Month – Rose
Birthstone – Pearl
Pearls have been valued for
many centuries. Natural pearls
are formed when a grain of sand irritates the
so5 inside of an oyster. The oyster covers
the irritant with a shell material called nacre,
which becomes the pearl. Natural pearls are
very rare. Most pearls on the market are
cultured, or grown on a pearl farm. Pearls
are the tradional gi5 for a 30th wedding
anniversary. A common folk belief says that
a new bride will be blessed with ferlity if she
sleeps with a pearl under her pillow.

What do you get when you cross a whale with a unicorn? Take a look at the
narwhal, and you’ll find out.
The narwhal is indeed a wonder to behold, looking like a creature straight out
of a storybook.
Nicknamed “the unicorn of the sea,” male narwhals have whale bodies and a
long, spiraled tooth, or
tusk, that protrudes from a hole in its upper lip and grows up to nine feet
(2.7 meters) long. Narwhals
live in one of the most isolated areas of the world—the frigid Arcc Ocean.
Narwhals are social creatures and are o5en seen swimming in groups of 15 to
20. It is not unusual,
however, to see them by the hundreds or even several thousand. The Inuit
people hunt the
narwhal for food, for vitamin C from its skin, and for the ivory tusk. Only 15% of
female narwhals
grow tusks, so they are not as frequently targeted by hunters.
So why do narwhals have “horns”? Sciensts have debated over the purpose of
such a unique
tooth. Some believe it adds an advantage for the male in aAracng a mate or
baAling rival suitors.
Video footage obtained from a drone in 2017 shows narwhals using their tusks
to stun cod fish with
quick taps, apparently rendering them unconscious and allowing the narwhal to
suck the fish into
its mouth like a vacuum. The porous tusks are covered in thousands of nerve
endings that help
with navigaon and sensing the environment—specifically with detecng
changes in the ocean’s
salt concentraon. With the shi5ing of ice flows, breathing holes necessary for
survival can become
covered. The tusk senses the colder, saler water that occurs when ocean
waters freeze and alerts the narwhal to steer clear of the area.
A vacume cleaner salesman knocked on a door in a Senior
community. It was opened by an old lady in a bathrobe.
"Go away" said the old lady. "I haven't got any money! I'm flat
broke!" and she proceeded to close the door.
Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and
pushed it wide open. "Don't be too hasty, my dear lady!" he said.
"Not until you have as least seen my amazing demonstration."
And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her
hallway carpet. "If this wonderful Kirby vacuum
cleaner doesn't remove all traces of this horse
manure from your carpet, madam, I will personally
eat the remainder of it."
The old Lady stepped back and said, "Well, I sure
hope you've got a good appetite sonny, because they
cut off my electricity this morning."
DOOR TO DOOR SALESMAN
“C’mon Ma you have got to try it” I pleaded to my elderly Mother. I don’t know
how my Mother lasted this long without ever using the internet, but enough was
enough! I thought. Ok” she said reluctantly settling down by the computer and
slowly putting on her reading glasses “what do I do now? ”Now I’m going to open
the home page of google”, I explained. “OK here it is! Now type in ANY question
you want into the bar over here and you will find an answer to your question.” I
confidently assured her. My Mother looked at me warily, thought for a second, and
slowly began to type,
How is Gertrude doing this morning?
THE INTERNET WHATS THAT ?
