FAS and the Balanced Scorecard

Building a Data-Driven and Strategy-Focused Organization

How the BSC Works

The Balanced Scorecard asks an organization to view their progress towards achieving their strategy through four perspectives:

– People

– Processes

– Customers

– Resources/Regulations

How the BSC Works (cont.)

• A Strategy Map is created, which identifies objectives within the four perspectives, and shows the cause and effect relationships between those objectives.

• Meaningful metrics are developed that measure progress towards achieving the objectives.

The FAS Balanced Scorecard Teams

• The Core Team:– Four members – Meeting weekly since 8/01– Developed Strategy Map – Developing on-going

Communication Plan to division– Lead activities, measurement

development, and implementation– Trainers for Process Improvement

BSC teams (cont.)

• The BSC Planning Council:– VP, Managers reporting directly to AVP’s

or VP, 2 other managers and Core Team

– Meet quarterly

– “Owners” of the process

– Final approval for all recommendations made by Core Team

– Assessment cycle: what do measures tell us; what changes need to be made.
