Questions & Answers

Who are we?

Who are we? We believe that there’s so much good on the Web!

We explore and promote the idea of e-volunteering since 2009. We: • launched the www.e-volunteering.eu website, • in 2014 we released the 1st in Europe

“E-volunteering handbook” – a practical guide for individuals, institutions and organizations who want to cooperate with volunteers online.

• in 2015 we published the 1st web application for e-volunteering, that supports the cooperation between NGOs and volunteers from Poland (in Polish).

• organized six Polish and three European editions of the ‘Discover e-volunteering’ competition, through which we gathered over 250 good e-volunteering practices.

E-volunteering vs. traditional volunteering

They’re very similiar!

• non-paid activities undertaken freely. • for the benefit of other people. • both rely on human compassion, the desire to lend a hand or help to make a difference, and on the willingness to share one’s time and skills.

2. Recruiting. Step I: online form, CV, motivation letter. Step II: Example of task. Sep III: Online conversation.

3. Organization. First meeting: Which tool will we use? How can we contact the coordinator? How can we contact other e-volunteers?

Cooperation

1. Preparing to start to work Make sure to provide your volunteers with comprehensive trainings / seminars, e.g.: • seminars on the topics related to the project. • technical seminars on how to use the project management aplications.

2. Performing tasks Make sure both you and volunteer understands: • What effect you want to achieve? • What is the deadline? • How will the finished work will be sent?

3. Evaluation You can use: • anonymous feedback forms. • team meetings. • one-to-one talks between an e-volunteer and the coordinator. • online task progress forms. •Feedback forms for the beneficiaries of e-volunteers’ work.

Cooperation

4. Motivating E-volunteers deeply appreciate feedback and being recognized for the work they do. Don’t let your online volunteers left alone! Be generous in saying „thank you” and try to discuss all the mistakes they make. If your cooperation is long-term, think about mechanisms that can help them gain new skills and integrate with other team members on a regular basis.

Ending e-volunteering cooperation

You can still keep in touch over e-mails, mailing groups or other tools.
