EXP.2Preparation of
Bis(ethylenediamine)copper(II) Nitrate
[Cu(en)2(]3NO)2
Reaction Equation :
Cu(NO3)2 + 2(en) → [Cu(en)2](NO3O)2Where en = H2N—CH2—CH2—NH2
Suggested Structure:
•Coordination no:
The shape of the complex:
Reaction Equation: Cu(NO3)2 + 2(en) → [Cu(en)2](NO3O)2Where en = H2N—CH2—CH2—NH2
Experimental Procedure :
•1 -Dissolve approximately 6 g of well pulverized Cu(NO3)2 3H2O, weighed to the nearest 0.01 g, in 38 ⋅
ml 95% ethanol in a 250-ml beaker .•.2 -Cool the solution in an ice bath for 15 min.
.3 -Add, with constant stirring, about 4.0 ml anhydrous ethylenediamine, C2H4(NH2)2, to the ice cold solution (ethylenediamine stinks and is very hard on skin, therefore use under the hood and take care!).
•4 -Suction-filter off the violet-blue product, using a Büchner funnel
•5 -Wash the product with 25 -ml portions of ether (CAUTION: ether is very flammable, make certain no open flames are in
the vicinity) .•6 -Weigh the air-dried crystals.
