- Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today,
that you may command them to your children, that they may be
careful to do all the words of the law. For it is no empty word for
you, but YOUR VERY LIFE, and by this word you shall live long in
the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess. Deut
32:46-47 The Promise of the Mosaic Covenant: Gods Grace You shall
walk in all the way that the Lord your God has commanded you, that
you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may
live long in the land that you shall possess. Deut 5:33

- Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For
truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota,
not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments
and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the
kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be
called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your
righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will
never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:17 Jesus & the Ten
Commandments

- You have heard it said -You shall not murder; and whoever
murders will be liable to judgment. But I say to you -everyone who
is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment... -Matthew
5:21&22

- You have heard it said -You shall not commit adultery. But I
say to you -that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent
has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

- What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet
if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I
would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said,
You shall not covet. 8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the
commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart
from the law, sin lies dead. 9 I was once alive apart from the law,
but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. 10 The
very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me. 11
For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived
me and through it killed me. 12 So the law is holy, and the
commandment is holy and righteous and good. Romans 7:7-12 The
Mosaic Covenant: Revelation

- For when we have learned that [the promises of life] will be
fruitless and ineffectual for us unless God, out of his free
goodness, shall receive us without looking at our works, and we in
faith embrace the same goodness held forth to us by the gospel, the
promises do not lack effectiveness when with the condition
attached. - John Calvin Institutes 2.7.4 The Hope in the Ten
Commandments

- I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of
Egypt, out of the house of slavery. The Gospel in the Ten
Commandments If we look only at the commandments as a means of
salvation we will desperately fail for we cannot fulfill the
righteous demands of the law. We must first look at the completed
work of God (vs. 2) before we are able to walk in His holiness (vs.
3-17).

- A Better Covenant Behold, the days are coming, declares the
Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and
the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their
fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out
of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was
their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I
will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the
Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their
hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jeremiah 31:31-33

- Every Old Testament commandment must today be filtered through
a grid of fulfillment in Christ to see how its application may have
changed. - Craig Blomberg The Lens of Christ

- All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in
righteousness, that the man of God * may be complete, equipped for
every good work. -2 Timothy 3:16-17 Is the Gospel in the Ten
Commandments?
