Greetings,

Dear SCATA members, as the school year comes to a close, I’m so encouraged by the commitment and involvement of our members. Committee applications are now open, so if you have the desire to become involved in our organization, please complete the application and send it in. If there is a committee that you would like to see in our organization please feel free to let me know. I want to say a huge congratulations to Ernie Drews, Jim Mensch and Alice McLaine on being awarded the NATA Athletic Trainer Service Award. Ernie’s sense of humor and dedication is one

of the few things I love about him. Jim’s devotion to students is extraordinary. Alice’s commitment to our profession is second to none.

The 2017 SCATA Annual Symposium Registration will be open on Friday. I want to thank Brad, Jeremy, Matt and our awesome Program Committee for putting together an awesome symposium. I want to thank Chris and Michelle for your energy and passion for the golf event. Please consider signing up for the golf tournament to help give back to the program that pays it forward. Our association is successful because of the dedicated volunteers that believe in athletic training.

Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you all in July.

Congrats to everyone on surviving the onslaught of the spring! I hope this newsletter finds each of you are looking forward to some much need rest and relaxation over the summer. Included in those summer plans I hope you will be joining us at the 2017 SCATA Symposium (possibly even on the greens for some golf the day before). I know personally I am incredible excited about the symposium and the hard work our Program Committee has put into it. In addition to the symposium, we are excited about the work we have

done to improve our brand and digital presence. We have worked to streamline our website and communications with our members through the integration of a new web platform. Some of these changes you have probably already noticed with the new website and the creation of The Blitz. We will continue to work to digitize our organization allowing us to better serve you and also “Go Green” by minimizing our carbon footprint. In addition to the new website and integrated registration we look forward to expanded offerings in the future that include moving towards a Green Symposium with digital documents and evaluations. As we continue to move towards the future we also want to encourage members to join us in the process. We are currently looking for individuals to join all of our committees. This is a great opportunity to help us plan for the future and make sure your ideas are part of that future. I personally am excited about looking at new ideas to help transform athletic training in South Carolina to better improve our futures and the futures of our patients. Again, please take a moment to look at our committees and consider offering your services to be a part of moving SCATA forward. Thanks again to all of you for the opportunity to serve as an executive member of SCATA. If I can provide any assistance to you please feel free to contact me and let me know what I can do! Best wishes to you all and I look forward to seeing each of you in July!

FROM THE SECRETARY/TREASURER

How is it the middle of May already? Hopefully this finds you well and seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

As we get into the summer months let me encourage you again to get involved with the state association.

There are several opportunities to serve and get involved. Committee applications are on the website, but don’t stop there.

I was fortunate to get involved with SCATA early in my career as a member of the program committee. It has done nothing but give me great experiences, lifelong friends, and memories.

Again, we have a great symposium in July, but it is you, the members, that make us great.I look forward to seeing you in July.

Keep ‘em safe. Brad Drake, MA, ATC
