Practice Questions For NT Workstation 4Test no 70-073
The following questions and answers are a guide line for what you have to study for the test, for this tutorial to be effective you must check all the answers to whether they are correct as interpretation of the questions may differ for any individual
Required Score : 705 No. of Questions : 51Time : 90 min ( instant registration )Note : Read MOC Core Technologies and Administrating Windows NT Networks perfectly. You will have to do Unattended installation from Sybex publication book. This colection includes questions which have been received on exams
1.A scenario for an unattended install. Required: the automated install. Of x computers and x laptops.
Optional: All computers must be members of domain CORP – Installation of applications.
Proposed solution: They start the installation of workstation with some funny file(I can’t
remember the name) which immediately makes the required not being met.
They also throw in only one and not two unattend.txt files plus other useless info. Just read
the proposed carefully as they change this quite often.
Remember required: 2 unattend.txt, UDF and SYSdiff (not windiff etc.)
2.RAS multilink connection with 2 ISDN lines with different tel. no’s. How do you configure?
My answer: One phone book entry with four different tel. no’s.
3.Easy question about name resolution (NetBIOS over TCP/IP) = WINS server 4.What to automatically assign IP addresses? = DHCP 5.You have an ISP with a PPP server with script as the answer (can’t remember the exact question but it in some of the other dumps). They appended the file name with .scp. 6.If a file is
moved within a partition to a folder – what happens to the compression attributes? 7.A question about doing an unattended install over the network to x computers. Installing wkst. and applications on identical PC’s with min. admin effort.
My answer: Install wkst. on PC and copy all files used for installation to server, do I
installation of other PC’s over network. Add a UDF file to name the PC’s.
8.Know your NTFS, file and share permissions locally and remotely.
Local = cumulative and least restrictive (except when No Access then No Access)
Remote = most restrictive
9.What 3 file do you need for an unattended install.
Unattend.txt (answer file); UDF; Sysdiff
10.You want to upgrade your WinNT workstation 3.51 to NT 4.0. The computer is currently configured with a single HPFS partition on its hard disk. What must you do?
A: Convert the file system to NTFS and then perform the upgrade.
They also had one where X wants to upgrade her 386 DX33 to NT 4.0. They add a lot of
useless info – You cant’ do this upgrade. The min. requirement is 486.
11.You are the administrator of a WinNT domain and you want to create a system policy to define the desktop options for all WinNT users in your domain.
A: Using System Policy Editor, create a system policy for all the users. Save the policy in a
file called NTConfig.pol in the Netlogon share of the PDC.
12.Creating new printer – you must share with Win’95, WinNT 3.51 and WinNT 4.0 with the least admin.
A: Install all three drivers on your computer.
13.TCP/IP configuration. What do you require?
IP address, Default gateway, Subnet mask.
14.You wish to add an applications path to a users environment? Add it to his environment variables. How?
A: Add it to the Autoexec.bat file OR
Use the environment tab of the System Properties dialog box in the Control Panel.

File and object access.
20.You want to install workstation as a member of a domain named ADMIN. You want to create a PC account in the ADMIN domain for this PC. How?
A: Specify that the computer is a member of the ADMIN domain. Supply the USERNAME
and PASSWORD of the ADMINISTRATOR of the ADMIN domain.
21.Scenario with workstation with four identical 2GB SCSI hard disks. The PC has multiple protocols installed and configured. Single FAT partition on each hard disk. Paging file in boot partition etc.
Required: Optimum speed of access to local files.
Optional: Faster speed of access to paging file + Optimize computers’ network performance.
Proposed solution: (on my exam) Configure all hard disks as a volume set. Keep them FAT
partitions. Keep the paging file on the boot partition. Put the most used protocol at the top
of the binding list.
A: This does not meet the required as volume sets are very slow. Striping is much faster.
Keeping the paging file on the boot partition slows access. Also using FAT for anything
bigger than 400MB is not optimum. Here NTFS is better.
22.Some question about users not receiving system policies. The only answer available being replication of domain controllers. 23.Another had this though where three users didn’t receive the group policy, the answer being that their individual policies took precedence (conflicting individual policies).
Policies take precedence over profiles.

Tips and Study Guide of NT Workstation 4.0 :-
1.Minimum Hardware requirements of NT 4.0 is 486DX /33 with 12MB Ram and 120MB free Hard disk space.
2.There is no plug and play support in Windows NT. 3.To upgrade from NT 3.51 with HPFS to NT 4.0 you need to convert it to NTFS first. 4.Fat and NTFS both support long file names under NT. Remember to use commas for a long file name on command line
5.The unattended.TXT will allow you to install NT for simple configuration and a UDF identifies the difference b/w installations such as computer name and user name.
6.Sysdiff is a utility to automate application installation during the automated setup of NT. 7.Windiff is a directory comparison tool included in windows NT 3.51 8.There are two registry tools included in NT 1) Regedit 2) Regedit32.
Regedit This is imported from 95 have the ability to search both keys and Branches.
Regedit32 This is a 3.51 editor includes functionality such as registry Permissions.
9.Winnt32.exe does not support /c or /f switches. 10.Four files are require to Load NT. 1) NTLDR 2) Boot.ini 3) Bootsect.dos 4) Ntdetect.Com. 11.Common Errors and their Reasons.
Boot couldn’t find NTLDR. (NTLDR is missing or corrupt.)
NTDETECT checking hardware repeated (NTDETECT.Com is missing or corrupt).
NTOSKRNL missing ( Boot.ini is missing or corrupt )
I/O error accessing boot sector ( Boot sector Problem )
Redundancy service fail to start (Check network setting and protocol. )
12.The repair process use the three setup disks and can verify the system files inspect the start-up environment and inspect the Boot sect.
13.To configure the paging file use performance Tab. 14.If lots of paging occur the most appropriate solution is to ADD RAM. 15.To optimize your Paging file move it away from the System/Boot partition. And if available divide the paging file on the stripe set.
16.A strip site can increase performance but a volume set cannot. And both of them can’t be system or Boot partition.
17.Strip set and volume set can be generated on different types of drives ESDI, IDE, SCSI. 18.Volume set can be extended but only on NTFS partition. Strip set cannot be extended. 19.If screen goes black during a change made in the display properties the most probable cause is a incorrect refresh rate. 20.Windows NT profiles are not compatible with 95 clients. 95 based clients profile must be created on a machine running window 95.
21.Built in groups cannot be deleted or renamed 22.User policy cannot be set for users who log on from LAN Manager, MS-DOS, and Windows for Workgroup or Windows 3.x clients. For those clients you can write a logon script to configure the user network and printers connection.
23.System policy overrides Local, Roaming or Mandatory profiles. 24.Individual Policy overrides group policy. 25.Use system policy to force restriction on particular users. 26.All MS-Dos application runs in different NTVDM and can therefore have priorities but cannot share memory.
27.Windows 16 bit applications, which need to share memory must be run in the default NTVDM.
28.Real-time priority can only be set by administration. 29.To start applications with different priority or in separate NTVDM from start command use parameters first then the application name.
30.Event viewer allow you to check three different types of Events 1) System 2) Security 3) Application.
31.Security event can only be checked by ADMIN. 32.DR Watson saves crash Dumps from Application’s. 33.The startup/Shut Down recovery option Save Memory Crash Dumps. 34.You can use Taskmanager and performance monitor to watch processor and memory usage.
35.DISKPERF.EXE is a utility that allow physical disk counters to be activated for use with performance monitor.
36.Use dial up monitor to trouble shoot RAS problem or activate DEVICE.LOG by editing registry.
37.In a TCP/IP routed network you need to configure IPAddress, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway
38.DHCP: Dynamic Host configuration Protocol. Is a method of automatically assigning IP addresses to computer on a TCP/IP address.
39.WINS : Windows Internet Name Services provides computer with internet no. for specified Netbios Names for a LAN. Win server cannot be configure to use on NON-MICROSOFT computers.
40.DNS: Domain name service Translate friendly URL into IP addresses. 41.WINS server and proxy agent are used to resolve netbios name. 42.PPTP : Point to point tunneling protocol. Is used to provide security over internet links. 43.To prevent unauthorized access through Internet you should disable server services, unbind unnecessary protocol from adapter, disable IP forwarding.
44.To change Password of Novell 3.x server use SETPASS from Novell server. And on 4.x use CTRL+ALT+DEL.
45.When connecting to NetWare 4.x uses "tree Context" and when connecting to 3.x or 4.x in bindery modulus use preferred server.
46.The three options in CSNW are
ADD FORM FEED : Ejects a Blank page after each print job.
PRINT BANNER : Print a page with user information at start of job.
NOTIFY WHEN PRINTED : Notify user when the job is printed.
47.A RAS server can dial back only one no. so a multilink is not possible but an ISDN- line with
2B-Channel nodes with same no can be dialed back.
48.IF ISP is using PPP then it will automatically assign you an IP address and if it is using SLIP you have to manually enter an IP address.
49.When combining SHARE and NTFS PERMISSIONS the most RESTICTIVE take effect.
50.The first Parentheses in NTFS permission describe how users can access existing files and second describe NEW Files.
