Question 3!
What kind of media institution
might distribute your media
product and why?
COMAG is one of the largest newsstand distributors in the UK
and the largest exporter of English magazines, supplying
magazines to over 80 countries around the world.
COMAG was formed in 1977 and is owned by two major
magazine publishers, The National Magazine Company and
Condé Nast Publications. These major forces in UK publishing
produce well-known brands including
Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Men’s Health, Glamour, Reveal and
GQ.
In the UK they distribute a large range of magazines, partworks
and sticker and trading card collections to news retailers, via a
network of wholesalers. News retailers range from newsagents
and high street stores to convenience
stores, supermarkets, petrol forecourts and travel points. Their
varied and diverse range of products, including many
imported magazines, means that wherever you go to pick up
the newspaper or magazine of your choice, many of the
products on sale will be distributed by COMAG.
For my magazines I felt the best distributor would be
COMAG as they have distributed to many more places
then some other distributors. This way my magazines would
get to more people at a quicker rate
Some of COMAG’s well known
magazines include:
-Cosmopolitan
-Glamour
-Vogue/Teen Vogue
-Vibe
-Vinyl Riot
-Elle
-Madison
-Self
-Company
-Remix
-Seventeen
-Spin
Why I think COMAG would
be a good distributor for my
magazine.
I believe that COMAG would be a good distributor
for my magazine as they have a wide range of well
known and recognisable magazine that they
already distribute. They also manage to distribute
them to everywhere people find convenient like
news agents, petrol stations etc. COMAG are
successful in 80 other countries as well as the UK so
my magazine would get to other audiences on a
wider scale. For COMAG to be so successful It is
clear that COMAG makes these magazines very
popular and would benefit my magazine greatly.
Online
Advertising
Due to the advance inn technology over the past few centuries,
magazines have been able to be viewed online as well as bought in a
shop to hold in your own hands. But now not only can you access them on
your computer but also on Ipads, Android phones, tablets etc. On my
magazine I have include an online web address in which readers can
access the magazine online for all the latest news that you might not view
within the magazine itself. This would be kept up to date and accurate in
order to encourage people to view the site as well as buy the magazine.
As well as the internet and technology as a whole, social networking sites
such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace have become a massive
advantage for companies to advertise by creating pages that you can
like and get updates everyday from. They are quick and easy to use and
millions of people use them everyday.
