Transcript of Erasmus head in the clouds - colapso da lata

Put ice in a circular glass dish with water; Put a little water in an empty soda can; Place the can on a hot plate; When steam starts off, grab the can with

tongs; Quickly turn opening into the cold water; Observe what happens.

Procedure

A change in the physical state of the water occurs inside of the can: it goes from liquid to vapor. When the can is placed in contact with the cold water that cools the steam, the watervapor rapidly passes to the liquid state. As the air pressure outside the can is higher than the pressure inside, the can surface collapses.

Conclusions

The atmospheric air contains water vapor, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and other gases, and their pressure is greater than the water vapor pressure inside the can.The steam condenses rapidly, comes to occupy a smaller space, so that the effect of the collapse is more intense.
