ENERGISING VIETNAM

GROWING VIETNAM’S POWER INDUSTRIES ACROSS BOTH CONVENTIONAL AND
RENEWABLE ENERGY OPTIONS
Addressing the now and future, UBM Asia will in 2018 organise the combined event - Electric & Power Vietnam and Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Vietnam. Held separately previously, the now combined energy event strives to facilitate a more efficient industry
platform for national and international attendees and stakeholders to converge for business, education and networking. The power industry market in Vietnam offers many challenges - from capacity expansions in coal, combined cycle, wind and solar power generation, to emissions management, smarter grid operations, efficiency improvements from generation through to consumption point and better power plant management. This event expects to become a key forum for Vietnam’s power needs, and will be taking place from 12 - 14 September 2018 at Saigon Exhibition and
Convention Center (SECC), Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
2018 PROJECTED STATISTICS
With the intention of creating an all-encompassing energy exhibition for Vietnam, The 4th edition of RE & EE Vietnam 2018, co-located with Electric and Power Vietnam 2018 will focus on Vietnam’s resurgent renewable energy opportunities driven by new positive legislatures which has encouraged renewable energy adoption
- particularly in the Wind and Solar sectors.Visit www.renergyvietnam.com for the detailed of exhibit profile

*The statistics was updated as of June 8th 2017.
Vietnam remains one of the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia, with GDP growth rate of 6.7% expected to 2020. In the first six months of 2017, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose 6.2% over the same period last year, in which power production and distribution increased by 8%, according to “Socio-economic situation in the first 6 months of 2017” report released by Vietnam General Statistics Office. Vietnam’s energy demand is forecasted to grow 13 percent annually over the next four year, which is attributed both increasing industrial and residential use. An additional capacity of 4,000MW will be required per year on average until 2020 to meet rapidly growing demand for power. on
LIBERALIZING VIETNAM’S POWER MARKET
GOING GREEN FOR STABLE DEVELOPMENT
THE GREAT POTENTIAL FOR SOLAR POWER PROJECTS
According to the revised Power Development Master Plan (PDMP) VII for the period of 2016 - 2020 to a vision towards 2030, with a strong emphasis on power market liberalization, Vietnam is set to complete the full competitive wholesale market between 2017 and 2021, preparing for the competitive electricity retail market from 2022 onwards. Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are expected to carry a large portion of the private-sector participation through open competitive bidding. Some of big IPPs are AES Corporation (Mong Duong 2 coal-fired power plant in Quang Ninh province, with a total investment of US$2.1 billion), GE (750MW combined cycle gas turbine power plants - Mien Trung I & II, in cooperation with PetroVietnam).
Vietnam’s southern province of Binh Thuan is set to receive a new wave of investment worth over US$4 billion in renewable energy, of which five solar power projects have been approved by the Government as of May 2017 with estimated US$651.2 million in total investment.

VIETNAM'S ENERGY DEMAND GROWTH RATE OF 13% EXPECTED UNTIL 2020
The adjusted PDMP VII outlines the decline of coal-fired power from 56.4% previously projected to 53.2% of total electricity production by 2030, opening vast opportunities in the Renewable Energy sector of Vietnam. The country now aims for 10.7% of the total electricity output by 2030 generated from renewable energy, up from 6% previously planned, mainly hydropower and solar energy accounting for 15.5% and 3.3% respectively.
