ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT
An environmental impact assessment is a formal process used to predict the environmental consequences of a plan , policy , program of project prior the implementation decision , it proposes measures to adjust impacts to acceptable levels or to investigate new technological solution.
INTRODUCTION:-
1) E.I.As began to be used in the year 1960
as part of rational decision making
process.2) It involved a
technical evaluation that world lead to objective decision
making.3) E.I.A was made
legislation in the US in the NATIONAL
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ACT (nepa) in
1969.
*NEED OF E.I.A :-1) To maintain
quality of environment it is
necessary to study impacts of
project on environment.2) This also
suggests remedial measures for
development of projects.
MAIN STEPS IN E.I.A’s PROCESS :

3) prediction & mitigation
4) audit
*1) SCREENING- Screening often
results in a categorization of the project and
from this a decision is made on whether or not a full E.I.A is to be carried out.
