FootballIn the UK, there are 4 professional leagues – The Premier League, The Championship, League One and League Two. There are different leagues in Scotland and Wales, but they are rubbish.

Even though the football is the lower leagues isn´t very good, they still get big crowds, with teams like Bradford in League Two getting 10,000 fans each game.

The clubs with the most successful histories are Liverpool and….Manchester United. However, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and even clubs like Derby County and Nottingham Forest (won the European club twice in 1979 and 1980) have rich histories.

English football is renowned for it´s tough tackles and passionate fans.

Leeds UnitedLeeds are one of the most hated football clubs in England. In the 1970s, they were the best team, but also the most violent. They were nicknamed ´Dirty Leeds´ and are still disliked today. At games across the country, fans sing ´We all hate Leeds scum´. However, Leeds fans like the fact that they are hated.

Newcastle United

Newcastle are a massive club in England. They have crowds of over 50,000 (including James). In the past they have won the league in 1905, 1907, 1909 and 1927, FA cups in 1910, 1924 and 1932.

RugbyRugby is very popular in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England. Even Spain have a team, but they are terrible!

The New Zealand Rugby team are renowned for their Haka. It´s a dance they do before a game to try and scare the opposition.

CricketCricket is very popular in England, India, Australia Pakistan and other countries around the world.

The India vs Pakistan match last year had the biggest viewing attendance for any sporting event ever, with 1 billion people watching.

TennisWimbledon is the annual tennis competition in London. It´s a very popular and prestigious event. Traditions include eating strawberries and cream, drinking champagne and sitting on ´Henman Hill´.

The sport is also popular in the USA.

American SportsUSA have their own range of sports. The most popular is American Football. The Super Bowl competition is held every year and gets a global audience of 111 m.illion viewers.

The second most popular is baseball, with soccer and ice hockey after. Ice Hockey is a very, very violent sport, with fight in every game.

Boxing

Boxing is popular in the USA, and a bit in the UK. However, many consider the sport to be dying, with it´s hayday being in the 70s and 80s with Mohammed Ali, Joe Fraser and George Foreman.

London OlympicsThe Olympics is London are expected to be a good event. People are excited about being able to see the different sports. The two most popular sports are the 100metre run and the beach volleyball.

Winter Olympics Canada

In 1998, two business men from Jamaica decided to start a Jamaican bobsleigh team. However, they had no money for equipment and had never seen snow before.

They got together 4 Jamaicans to be in the bobsleigh team, trained very hard and managed to go to the Winter Olympics 1998 in Canada.

When the team arrived in Canada, everyone made fun of them. They found the cold weather very strange. They ended up losing the final race, but everyone was proud of them because they proved people wrong. Now they have quite a good bobsleigh team.
