MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Monitoring the national and global economic and political picture.

Presenting scenarios to the board or asset managers enabling them to take decisions on an informed

basis in the development of strategic plans for the medium and long run.

Dealing with high frequency and hard data in order to offer analysis to traders, at treasury or asset

management desks, supporting their short term portfolio allocations decisions.

A contrarian call on the exchange rate (BRL/USD), from 2004 up to 2008, based on a detailed forecast

for the Brazilian balance of payments, which pointed to an appreciation of the Real, was critical for

significant gains for Santander AM and its clients over the period.

I always take the exchange rate as my starting point for analyzing the economic scenario as it reflects

all the information involving Brazil and the global economy. As a result, it is crucial to forecast

inflation, growth, interest rates and all the other key economic variables. A recent measurable result:

appearing 6 times in the “Top 5” forecasters in the Central Bank´s Focus report over the period 2012

and 2013, in various categories.

Presentations to companies and clients on economic themes (all in all, at least one thousand over my

career to date), always seeking to be in step with public needs and interest at each moment.

When dealing with sector analysis, I used to forecast supply, demand and, as a consequence, gave

price guidance to the oil and gas industry, iron ore, steal, pulp and paper, petrochemicals along with

other commodities.

Forecast modeling for the main economic variables based on own data base. Knowledge of

econometric program (Eviews), Bloomberg and Broadcast.

Information and forecasts (GDP growth, FX rate, interest rate, fiscal balance, balance of payments) for

company budget purposes.

Active member in economic forums (HSBC, Anbima and Central Bank) with peers of other institutions.

Writing papers, both in Portuguese and in English, putting forward the economic opinion of the Bank to

clients. Establishing new weekly wrap-up and bulletins to be circulated throughout the bank´s Brazilian

branches and to specific clients abroad.

I have structured three Economic Departments from scratch (American Express Bank, Santander AM

and Rabobank) focused on either proprietary trade or asset management.

Consultant in a project, whose final document was the report: “Economic Impacts of the Power

Rationing in Northeast of Brazil in 1987”. My econometric knowledge allowed me to have a crucial role

in this consultancy at the very beginning of my career.
