The most popular sport is FOOTBALL. It begins in England in the Middle Ages:

A football match For a football match you need a stadium with a field or pitch and two nets and a ball, of course! There are eleven players: a goalkeeper four defenders three or four midfielders two or three strikers or attackers There are eleven opponents, a referee, two linesmen

ENGLISH SPORTS

Sports play an important role in Englishmen's lives and are a popular leisure activity. Many of the world's famous sports began in England, including CRICKET, FOOTBALL (SOCCER, as it is called in USA), TENNIS and RUGBY. The English national sport is CRICKET although now football is more popular. Some of England's football teams are world famous such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
