Learner engagement happens when your participant proactively decides to make an investment in learning.
Your learner is only as engaged as you design for them to be.
If engaged, your participant will practice higher level critical thinking skills and will incorporate your material into their lives.
Learner engagement leads to meaningful learning experiences.

Some content is better suited for face-to-face training sessions, while other content is more appropriate for virtual training.
In virtual environments, the session must be designed with technology in mind.
As Hogle (2017) points out, multitasking becomes a big deal in virtual training: present, run technology, and engage learners.
Learners sometimes need to overcome certain technical issues in virtual environments.

Communication Tools and Engagement Activities

Learners by default don’t want to participate in virtual environments; you have to design for them to participate.

Get together in groups. Pick a group facilitator.
Task: As a group, think of a 1-hour training session you have to deliver. Your type of delivery will be assigned: virtual or in-person.
Come up with 4-6 engaging activities for your training. The group facilitator will debrief everyone when your time is up. You have 10 min.
