Energy is the ability of an object to change things around it. Energy can be mechanical, light, thermal, electrical, chemical or nuclear.

WHAT IS ENERGY?

SOURCES OF ENERGY OTHER SOURCES OF ENERGY

Fuels are sources of chemical energy. Coal, natural gas and petroleum are fuels

Water is a source of mechanical energy.

Wind is a source of mechanical energy.

Uranium and plutonium are sources of thermal energy.

The Sun.

Biomass.

Waves and tides.

Renewable: water, wind, sun, biomass, waves

and tides.

Non-renewable: fuels, uranium and plutonium.

SOURCES OF ENERGY CAN BE:

Electricity is a form of energy: We can transport easily through power

lines. It transform into other types of energy, like

the light energy of a light bulb.

ELECTRICITY

Static electricity:it occurs when an object accumulates electrical charge.

An objetc is neutral when it has the same number of positive and negative charges.

An object is positively charged when it has more positive than negative charges.

An object is negatively charged when it has more negative than positive charges.

Objets with different electrical charges will attract each other, and objets with the same electrical charges will repel each other.

ELECTRICAL CHARGES

Electrical charges move easily through conducting materials.

Electrical charges cannot move through insulating materials like wood, rubber and plastic.

Changes in the landscape. Depletion of non-renewable energy sources. Pollution.

ENERGY AND ENVIROMENT

Turn off the lights. Use public transport. Turn off heaters and insulate homes. Practise the 3 R’s:reduce, reuse and recycle.
