•All the key discoveries of the human genius – for instance, steam engine, railway, means of communication and connection, automobile, aero places and computers etc…, need steel as basic material.

• The Economy of any nation depends on a strong base of iron and steel industry. Today Steel occupies the foremost place amongst the materials in use today.

PROFILE OF VIZAG STEEL RINL is the 6th largest integrated steel

plant setup in the public sector in India .

•RINL was found in 1982 for construction and operation of VSP over coming several constraints during its construction the plant started its production in 1990.

•RINL is celebrating its 25th of its industrial journey in 2007 as silver jubilee year.

•RINL obtained three certificates (international standards) • ISO 9001-2000 for quality management• ISO 14001-1996 for Environment management• OHSAS18001- 1999 for Healthy & safety management

in the area of pollution control equipment RINL spends 8% of total project cost for environmental pollution free in the steel plant in which 40% of total plant area is covered with3.6 million trees which gives friendly and healthy atmosphere.

Need & significance• Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited is a

multi-product steel manufacturing unit with Rs 8,500 cr of capital and with around 50,000 employees.

•The foundation of the success for any organization is its healthy and satisfied employees.

•Hence, the present study has been taken up on employees of different departments of VSP to know the strategies followed by VSP to maximize the employee satisfaction in their organization.

The main objective of this study is to ascertain the different factors which affect the level of satisfaction, morale and motivation of the employees of VSP. So I used the 5 point Rating scale method

Rating scales can include 5 elements as follows:• Strongly Disagree• Disagree • Un Decided• Agree• Strongly Agree

Total = 130 Employees

Primary Data : The data was collected through a structured questionnaire to know the job satisfaction levels of the employees.

Data analysis“A Study of Employee Satisfaction at VSP” aims at finding the different level of employee satisfaction with respect to the service provided to them. For this The dimensions which I have covered are •The Job •The Work Environment•Communication•Leadership and Management•Decision Making•Rewards and recognition•Training and development•Work Discipline•Performance appraisal system •Welfare facilities•Career development and career path•Compensation and benefits•Safety measures and the Company.

FINDINGS

• Most of the non executives are dissatisfied with present performance appraisal system in VSP

• Some employees are not satisfied with the Educational facilities provided to their children by the company.

• 35% of the employees are not satisfied by the housing facilities provided by the company.

• Majority of the employees agreed that they are totally secure in their present job.

• Employees working in the organization were facing health problems due to dust particles coming out from the machines.

suggestions

Suggestions

• Performance appraisal system for workers should be on the basis of expectations of the workers.

• . Care should be taken in the maintenance of plant, especially during rainy season.• Effective two-way communication should be

maintained in the company and the communication should reach upto the gross root level workers.

• Rewards and recognition should be given to the deserving candidates on the basis of objective evaluation of performance at periodical intervals.

• Recreation facilities like audio and video can be arranged during the lunch breaks in the canteens and rest rooms.
