Welcome to the I Am A Leader Reader Series. This series is designed to enhance your child'sreading ability, critical thinking skills, and leadership qualities.

As they learn to read they will become more confident in their reading comprehension. Asthey become more confident readers ask them the critical thinking questions at the back ofthe book.

The best way to teach your child to read is by consistently reading to them for short periodsof time. As a result this book was designed to be used over a span of five days for 15minutes.

CONGRATULATIONS

Day 1:Introduce IN WORDS. Go around your home and look for IN words. This will allow them to put a picture tothe words.

Day 2:Do the Word Builder.

Day 3:Do the flash cards. Remember make it fun.You can jump, hop, wiggle, or clap after every other word.

Day 4:Read the story and color in the pictures. The story was designed for your child to draw in the pictures. Feelfree to print out the book. This method allows them to better remember the words.

Day 5:Read the story.Your child should be able to start reading the story. Revisit any part off the book.

Hi, my name is Ella Baker.

I am a leader.

I help young people stand-up by sitting down.

Some people were not being nice.

I knew we could win by doing our best.

We will win by a sit-in.

People were scared.

I said, "We will do our best and win by a sit-in."

People were scared and said," They do not think of our kids as kin."

I said, "We will do our best and win by a sit-in."

People were scared and said," They will throw our kids in a bin."

I said, "We will do our best and win by a sit-in."

People were scared and said," They will pin our kids to a wall."

The kids were brave and did sit-in.

We did win.

I am a leader critical thinking questions. These questions are designed for your

child to see the leader in themselves. Encourage leadership qualities in your

child.

Ella Baker was an organizer for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee

(SNCC). She led the lunch counter sit-ins.
