Integral style thermal mass flowmeters all of thecomponents and connections are located within theenclosure.TheenclosureisExplosionproof(Flameproof)ratedforuseinhazardousarealocations.Theenclosureismounted directly to the insertion probe assembly. Theenclosurecontainstheelectricalconnections,signalprocessingelectronicsandtheLCDdisplay,withprogrammingkeypad.

OurpatentedFlowAveragingTubes™(FAT™)ThermalmassflowmetersgenerallyfollowKing’sLaw, and use the principle of convective heat transfer to directly measure mass flow. EPI’sproprietary thermalmass flow sensorsuse twopreciselymatched, reference-gradeplatinumResistanceTemperatureDetectors(RTDs).Thesensorelementsarehermeticallysealedin316LStainless Steel (or optional Hastelloy C276) thin wall sheaths. Our microcontroller operatedsmartsensortechnologypreferentiallyheatsoneRTD;theotherRTDactsasthetemperature

reference. The process gas flow dissipates heat from the first RTD,causing an increase in the power required to maintain a balancebetweentheRTDs.Thisincreaseisdirectlyrelatedtothemoleculargasflowrate.Oursensorsaretemperaturecompensatedforawideprocessgas temperature range and insensitive to pressure changes, therefore

theflowmeteroutputisadirectmassflowratevalue.Wellsuitedforapplicationswithlimitedstraightrun.Up-streamstraightruncanbereducedtothreediameters.Probehasanumberoflargediameterinletportsalongthelength.Thepressureateachinletportisaveragedtocreatethe axial flow across our flow sensor. The gas returns to themain flow stream through thereturnport.Theactualflowprofilemaystillsomerequireminoradjustmenttoachievethebestaccuracy.
