Karina is the student we supply medicineto on a monthly basis. She has a terminal lung disease. Currently, she

is doing well.

This is Karina with her Grandmother and Mother.

Mrs. And Mr. Duran with Jesse and his mom Lydia Quintanilla, from the Servants of the Poor at Corpus Christi School in Houston,

Texas, with Karina.

Rebecca Duran with Lydia Quintanilla, Darwin and Mr. Duran.

Darwin has grown up with our Servants of the Poor mission work. The Durans have hosted our medical mission personnel and our student

ambassadors for the past ten years. Darwin received a hearing aid two years ago as one of 35 received and fitted by Mrs. Connie Barragan. Today he and his school are receiving batteries through the generosity of Cheri Le Compte

of Affordable Hearing Care in Houston, Texas. For the first time, Darwin was able to hear his mother say, “I love you.”

This is the church of San Sebastian nearing completion after total devastation in 200l. Since that time, the Servants of the Poor have assisted with medical missions organized by Gloria Schneider, and

student ambassador mission trips lead by Ruth Keenan.

Hard work, generous donations and dedicated service have rebuilt this church to mimic its former glory.

The rededication of the church will take place on January 20th, 2010 on the feast of San Sebastian. San Jacinto College Journalism student John Espree and Servants of the

Poor founder, Ruth Keenan hope to join Gloria Barhonna Schneider and her family in attending the celebration.

With an offhand comment made several years ago, a dream becomes a reality. A donor is found and unsuspecting Jimmy will be receiving a wheelchair for the very first time. He has

spent his years using a skateboard to transport himself. Jimmy moderates the local chapter of Servants of the Poor attended by the youth of San

Sebastian church.

Through a generous donation of Duke Medical Equipment, Dr. Michael Lucas and RN Sandy Neiheiser make the connection to Ruth Keenan to receive the special made

wheelchair, which is delivered by Continental Airlines and presented to Jimmy by the Quintanillas and Durans. Here, Jimmy receives his wheelchair.

Jimmy enjoys the new view. It fits just right.Thank you to all who assisted in making this moment possible.
