Questions & Answers

What is an Energy Efficiency Program?

National Grid offers financial incentives to customers who purchase

and install qualified energy efficiency equipment that meets

established program requirements for high efficient energy saving

equipment.

Eligible customers must be located in a National Grid service

territory in Massachusetts, New York or Rhode Island. Customers

who receive a National Grid electric or gas bill are qualified to

participate in a variety of programs.

Participants receive a financial incentive that assists the customer

in recovering the higher incremental cost for purchasing more

efficient products.

All customers contribute to this Energy Efficiency fund through a

surcharge on their utility bill.

Qualifying a Large

Commercial / Industrial Client

Is the customer a National Grid commercial/industrial account?

Is the product being installed new?

Only new products qualify.

Does the product meet all qualifying conditions?

Delta Electro Power (Delta) will coordinate with your National Grid

account representative to determine if products qualify, and to

make sure proper application is completed.

Delta will assist to complete application in its entirety and submit all

relevant documentation as listed on the application.

Upon application approval, National Grid will provide a commitment

letter for the amount of incentive and any qualifying conditions that

need to be met to be qualified.

22

Variable Speed Drives Audit & Review

Variable Speed Drives eliminate the losses and costs of throttling

devices, allowing for reduced power consumption and improved

energy factor.

Audit/Application Process:

Delta performs site review to assess Variable Speed Drive applications

that do not currently exist

National Grid reviews audit and verifies that motor or replacement motor

and drives meet program requirements

Hours of operation meet minimum requirements (>2000 hours)

National Grid calculates performance and savings (before offering

customer commitment)

Compressed Air Leak Survey /

Supply-Side Audit

An air leak survey will establish the size of a leak and the amount of

benefit which can be realized by repairing the leak. Repairing leaks

will allow customers to achieve lower operating costs. Costs will be

shared for the repair.

Audit/Air Leak Survey Requirements and steps for authorization:

Delta/Atlas Copco submits a proposal for air leak study to National Grid

Delta details scope of work and type of metering equipment to perform

evaluation.

Delta provides a written report identifying system leaks and benefits that

can be realized by repairing leaks.

26

Air Leak Process & Responsibility

27

Provide a complete leak survey and system

technical review at no charge.

Offer financial assistance in installing

permanent metering of compressed air

system energy consumption.

Recommend for low cost O&M

improvements.

Cover up to 45% of all costs for leak repair

or other low cost O&M improvements.

Assist with other items, e.g. a follow-up

system assessment, staff training,

permanent metering or purchase of leak

detection equipment for customer use.

Pays 100% of the survey fee as long as

80% of the leaks are identified in the report.

National Grid will… The participating customer will…

Issue initial Purchase Order for leak survey

and metering costs. NGRID will reimburse

customer following leak repairs.

Pay up to 55% of costs of costs for leak

repair or other O&M improvements.

Repair identified compressed air leaks

within 90 days of system survey.

Provide periodic air system operating data

to National Grid or designated service

providers.

Implement an on-going leak detection and

repair program within the facility.

Case Study

A manufacturing facility needed a energy-efficient replacement for

their compressed air system.

Reviewed air system performance.

Installed high efficiency air compressor with VSD motor and dryer.

28

$78,878 Utility Incentive

273,974 kWh Annual Electric Savings

$33,808 Annual Cost Savings

2,215 Tons of Carbon Reduction

3.5 year payback with incentive included

Custom Study

National Grid can provide a technical consultant to assist vendors in

the review and estimation of energy savings that can be achieved by

installing efficient products when requested. Qualifying studies have a

50/50 copay between the customer and National Grid.

Examples of custom studies:

Energy Recovery Ventilation

Complex lighting projects

Custom ventilation projects (lab or complex DCV systems)

Applications not covered by Prescriptive Applications

A National Grid sales person can assist with establishing any costs

that may be incurred from consulting services.

29

Case Study

Optimized energy efficiency using Energy Recovery Ventilation (ERV),

high efficiency HVAC rooftop units, increased insulation, and optimal

lighting

30

A manufacturing warehouse expansion required design

enhancements to optimize energy efficiency.

38 tons of air-conditioning load reduction

1.2 million BTU/hour of heating load reduction

1.8 year payback on Energy Recovery
