Known as the intellectual agency of the United Nations
It was created on November 16, 1945.
Headed by a Bulgarian politician, Irina Georgieva Bokova.
Its objective is to contribute to PEACE and SECURITY by promoting inter- national collaboration through EDUCATION, SCIENCE, and CULTURE.

UNESCO-China Funds-in-Trust Project (CFIT) A flagship project on
enhancing quality teacher training in Africa
This aims at using ICT to support the target countries in enhancing their teacher training institutions.
The focus is to increase the quantity and improve the quality of both pre-and in-service teachers.
Target Countries: Côte d'Ivoire Ethiopia
Namibia Liberia, CongoTanzania Uganda
Competency-Based Teacher Training Reforms This aim at supporting the
ministries of education in defining and developing the required ICT competencies for teachers.
Provides ICT training programs where teachers’ development is systematically guided, monitored, assessed and tracked.
Emphasis was placed on the integration of ICT in schools and the capacity building of teachers
