Earth Day - Connecting Russia and Estonia

Erin’s Thoughts Kseniya’s Thoughts Final Plan

Goal - Whatdo we wantthe kids towalk awaywith?

I want the kids to know thatpeople all around the world areworking to help the Earth.

I want the kids to understandthat taking care of the planet is aglobal responsibility, one that wecan work on together.

I want my students to believe that a small group of committed people can change the world.

Taking action gives you a goal, a purpose that youcan put your energy into. It also puts you in contactwith other people who are taking action - you get tomake new friends while you make a difference!

Students will recognize aglobal effort to care for theEarth, which is often carriedout by small groups of people committed tomaking a change.

Students will makeinternational connections, which may result incooperative action towardsa common goal.

Evidence -How will weknow theymet thegoal?

Rough Brainstorming Ideas:● Creating a projecttogether: sending eachother recycled art, or Skyping a recycled fashionshow.● Raising money together to help save an endangeredanimal.● writing a nature poemtogether

● reflection or notes onhow we think differentlyabout the planet or how wethink the same (using someof your discussionquestions)

● Share short information about our towns andwhy we are so passionate about Earth Day.

● Send each other or just show recycled art or recycled clothes. If there isn’t any, shareideas what can be made from rubbish

● Raising money for Greenpeace is a goodidea. Why not send each other something( whatever they want -pictures, photos,toys...) made by students with a note “Everyday is Earth Day” and sell them to students.

● Sharing poems

● I like the idea of reflection and notes after or during short discussion.

● Why not sing a song together?● http ://learnenglishkids .britishcouncil.org /en /s

Choose some essentialquestions, and using a venn

Each child could be assignedone or two questions to ask (wecould split them up between our classes). The rest of the classcould then respond, taking turnsbetween classes and students.
