What is E-Rate?

It is a discount program for schools and libraries.

The program provides 20-90% discount on eligible telecommunications services, depending on economic need and location.

Discounts can be applied to telecommunications services, Internet access, and internal connections and basic local and long distance phone services.

What is the Application Process?

For a school to apply they must1. Develop a technology plan2. File Form 4703. Wait 28 days4. File Form 4715. Wait for questioning6. Review 471 Receipt7. Review Funding Commitment Letter8. To confirm services, file form 486

How is the need determined?

The level of discount is based on

• Percentage of students eligible for participation in the National School Lunch Program

• Location of school: Rural or Urban

Professional Development

Part of the district’s quest to improve student achievement through technology is to provide its teachers with appropriate professional development. A district wide survey was conducted, and the following needs were addressed at professional development workshops.

Trainings

District provides opportunities for professional development.

Focus of trainings are to findways to utilize technology in standards based lessons, keeping in mind the needs of teachers.  

Conclusion

With the support of the E-Rate program schools are able to function in modern time keeping the 21st century learner in

mind. Given that technology is becoming the key to students’ success, we will

continue to push forward with the professional development opportunities

granted to us.
