E-PIPELINE Chapter Newsletter September 2016
President’s Message
Dear Members,
I hope everyone had a great summer! Along with the hint of summer
ending, comes the start of the chapter programming year. First, a big
thanks to all who are volunteering on the board this year. I would like to
introduce our newest board members Julie Perras, Janinie Mryglod,
Rachelle Paquette, and Tricia Rowe. I am looking forward to working with
all of the board on another fantastic year.
Our upcoming program will offer nine lunches, our annual IIA/ACFE Fraud
Conference and a one day ERM course. Please see inside the newsletter
for the exact dates of all lunches. The one day ERM course will be on
October 18 and we are still finalizing the dates for the Fraud Conference.
Please mark your calendars and I hope to see you all out for these events.
Last year the chapter achieved Sapphire status under the IIA CAP
reporting system. Please continue to report all eligible activity as you
support our Chapter Achievements!

Background: Please join the IIA Edmonton and its Event Sponsor, Economical Select
in welcoming Edmonton Christine Maligec, Senior Risk Officer Alberta
Blue Cross & President of the Northern Alberta Chapter of the Risk and
Insurance Management Society (NARIMS) as our luncheon presenter.
The success or failure of any organization depends on its ability to
execute its strategy. With that comes the need to make decisions, test
the assumptions of innovation, and implement initiatives, review
outcomes as well as business processes. The Enterprise Risk
Management process model is an excellent tool not only to manage a
risk register, but making ethical decisions in alignment with strategy and
values. It also encourages the proactive collaboration with external
stakeholders and all three lines of defense.
Speaker: Christine Maligec Christine Maligec is currently the Risk Officer at Alberta Blue Cross. With
over 14 years of insurance and risk management experience, Christine
is able to bridge her understanding across multiple industries and
disciplines to look at risk from a holistic perspective. In 2014, Christine
started an informal, grassroots ERM networking group in Edmonton. In
addition, she supports the Strategic Risk Council by co-chairing the
executive council as well as its mentoring and coaching initiative. As an
active Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS) member, Christine
has been involved with her local RIMS chapter for almost a decade and
is currently the President of the Northern Alberta chapter.

Chapter Achievement Program
For the 2015/2016 Chapter Year the Edmonton Chapter achieved Sapphire status in the IIA’s Chapter
Achievement Program (CAP).
To qualify for recognition in the IIA’s CAP program, Chapters must earn specific minimum Chapter
Achievement points in the categories of:
Service to Members
Service to the Profession
Chapter Administration
Once the chapter has met or exceeded the minimum CAP Requirements in the three categories
(above), the chapter will have reached the BRONZE performance level. A chapter can advance to

years. A chapter will continue to be recognized as platinum level each year thereafter as long as it
reaches the Gold CAP level every year. There are three special levels above Platinum: Ruby
recognizing 10 consecutive years of Platinum; Sapphire recognizing 15 consecutive years of Platinum;
and Diamond recognizing 25 consecutive years of Platinum.
