An electromagnetic bomb is a weapon that uses an intense

electromagnetic field to create a brief pulse of energy that

affects electronic & electrical circuitry without harming

humans or buildings.

At low levels : The pulse temporarily disables electronics

systems.

At mid-range levels : corrupt computer data.

Very high levels : completely destroy electronic circuitry,

thus disabling any type of machine that uses electricity,

including computers, radios, and ignition systems in vehicles.

Introduction :

History

•In 1958, when the United States conducted nuclear tests high above the Pacific Ocean, the explosions sent out bursts of gamma rays, extremely high-frequency electromagnetic waves which has effect on electronic circuitry and natural life. The result was an electro-magnetic event whose effects were felt thousands of miles away.

•After the Cold War ended, physicists began to explore the use of EMPs as a high-tech weapon to yield a low-tech result: the complete devastation of an enemy's engines, telecommunications, and electronic systems.

•Alarmed by news of Russian advances in the development of an e-bomb in 1998, Western scientists stepped up efforts to create their own e-bomb technology.

•In 2000, British scientists announced the development of an e-bomb that could be fired from a long-range 155 km. artillery gun or multiple-launch rocket system.

Principle :

The principle involved in electro magnetic bomb is generation of high intensity electromagnetic pulse.

High intensity Electromagnetic Pulse can be generated by two methods :

1. Flux Compression Generators (FCG).2. Magneto-Hydrodynamic (MHD) generators.

Liberation of electro magnetic pulse by fusion material and electro magnetic field.

Recent Technology in Electro Magnetic Bomb’s

Advantages

•It causes mass disruption without destroying life or property.

•An e-bomb could freeze transportation systems, wreck communication systems, and destroy computer networks.

•An e-bomb could be an attractive tool for creating vast Technological destruction at a low cost.

Disadvantages

•Using high intensity Electro Magnetic Pulse destroys the electronic circuitry which cannot be rebuilt again

•Using these electro magnetic bombs in illegal and unfair means near cities causes huge loses in recent advancements.

•The fuel used should be perfectly non nuclear. In the adverse case it effects life and natural resources

Conclusions

•Electromagnetic bombs are Weapons of Electrical Mass Destruction with applications across a broad spectrum of targets, spanning both the strategic and tactical. As such their use offers a very high payoff in attacking the fundamental information processing and communication facilities of a target system.

• The massed application of these weapons will produce substantial paralysis in any target system, thus providing a decisive advantage in the conduct of Electronic Combat, Offensive Counter Air and Strategic Air Attack.

•Because E-bombs can cause hard electrical kills over larger areas than conventional explosive weapons of similar mass, they offer substantial economies in force size for a given level of inflicted damage, and are thus a potent force multiplier for appropriate target sets.

•The non-lethal nature of electromagnetic weapons makes their use far less politically damaging than that of conventional munitions, and therefore broadens the range of military options available
