CHAI-Institutional Fellow-2018
Dr.Y.S.R.Horticultural University was awarded with ‘CHAI-Institutional Fellow-
2018’ by Confederation of Horticulture Associations of India, New Delhi on
28.05.2018 at DRPCAU, Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar for its contributions and
commitment to Horticulture Research, Education and Development .
CHAI-Honorary Fellow-2018
Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor (FAC),
Dr.YSRHU and Ex-officio Secretary to Govt. of Andhra
Pradesh was awarded with CHAI-Honorary Fellow Award –
2018 by Confederation of Horticulture Associations of India,
New Delhi for his contributions and commitment to horticul-
ture development.

Education
Visits
Dr.Balaji Sreedhar Kulkarni, Prof & University Head, Department of
Floriculture and Landscaping, UHS, Bagalkot visited CoH, Venkata-
ramannagudem as external examiner for conducting the final viva-
voce examination as external examiner on 23rd May 2018.
Exposure Visit
Third year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students of CoH, Anantharaju-
peta visited Chandragiri on an exposure visit to the fort, plan of
design of landscape architecture and other ornamental plants
available. Went to old Shanambatla village for showing rearing silk
worms and mulberry cultivation on 24.05.2018. Dr. M. Raja Naik,
Asst. Professor (Hort.), Dr. M. Ramaiah, Assoc. Professor (Ento.)
CoH, Anantharajupeta coordinated the exposure visit.
An exposure visit to 3rd year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students, CoH,
Anantharajupeta to Tirumala was arranged on 31.05.2018 to show
landscaping places, gardens, nursery plants, flower decorations,
different forest species and pests on ornamental crops.
Sri. S. Srinivasulu, Deputy Director of Horticulture (TTD) has
facilitated in arranging the exposure visit and interacted with the
students. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), Dr. M. Ramaiah, Assoc. Professor (Ento.). Dr. K.
Lalitha, Asst. Professor (Agro), Dr. Y. Deepthi Kiran, Asst. Professor (Agro), coordinated the
programme.
Annual Action Plan Meeting of KVKs, A.P
The Annual Action Plan meeting of KVKs in
Andhra Pradesh for 2018-19 was conducted
from 21st to 22nd May, 2018 at RARS, Lam,
ANGRAU, Guntur. Dr.V.Damodar Naidu, Vice-
Chancellor, ANGRAU participated as chief guest
and addressed the gathering on importance of
KVKs in transferring the technical ‘Know How
and Do How’ to the farmers. Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy,
Director of Extension and Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research along with crop experts
Dr.B.V.K.Bhaghawan (Fruits), Dr. K.T. Venkataramana (Citrus & Flower Crops) and
Dr.C.Venkataramana (Chilli & Spice crops) reviewed the programmes and suggestions were given for
the horticulture technical programme of all the KVKs in A.P. Dr.Y.G.Prasad, Director, ICAR-ATARI,
Hyderabad, Dr.P.Rambabu, Director of Extension, ANGRAU, Dr.L.Uma Devi, Dean of Home Science,
ADRs and other senior faculty have attended. Scientists from four KVKs under Dr.YSRHU presented
their action plans for the year 2018-19.

Campus Selections
Students of Horticultural Polytechnic, Kalikiri attended written
examination conducted by M/s.Amara Raja Batteries, Tirupati for the
post of Technical Assistant on 09.05.2018 and three students got
selected. Dr.C.N.Byanna, Principal coordinated the programme.
Extension
Training Programmes
KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducting the Fifteen days training
programme on “Food Processing and Preservation” from 21.05.2018
to 04.06.2018 to students of Ch.S.D.St. Theresa’s College for Women,
Eluru was started by KVK, Venkataramannagudem. Dr. E.Karuna
Sree, Course Director, Sr. Scientist & Head and Scientists of KVK,
Venkataramannagudem inaugurated the program. The Scientists of
KVK have delivered lectures on vegetables, fruits, milk, meat, fish,
millets, honey processing and preservation etc.
Dr. M. Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem
attended a training programme on ‘Cultivation aspects and IPM in
Vegetables’ as a resource person at Pedapatnam (V) and Pedapatnam-
lanka (V) on 23.05.2018 and 24.05.2018.
Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati attended the training programme on "Pest &
disease Management Mango" as resource person on 24.05.2018 at RHTI, Kadapa conducted by
MIDH, Kadapa to the Multi Purpose Extension Officers.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended a training
programme as resource person on “Management of diseases in cultivation of Guava and Sapota”
organized by RHTI, Anantapuramu on 29.05.2018 and 30.05.2018 at Anantapuramu.
World Honey Bee Day
Department of Horticulture & Agricultural Technology Manage-
ment Agency (ATMA) and KVK, Venkataramannagudem
conducted World Honey bee day on 20.05.2018 at TTDC,
Meeting Hall, Vatlur. In this programme Sri.Mohammad Hasim
Shariff Addl.Joint Collector, W.G.District attended as chief guest.
Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director
of Extension and Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs attended
as guests of honour and explained about importance of honey bees in pollination of crops, various
bee keeping related activities carried out by KVKs of Dr.YSRHU and released publication on Impor-
tance of honey bees in horticultural crops for enhancing higher yield. Later Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of
Student Affairs delivered a lecture on Key factors in Apiculture - Bee Pasturage and plant protection
measures, Sri G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem delivered a lecture on Bee
keeping for the Beginners & Bee keeping as an income generating enterprise and also arranged
exhibition stall on Apiculture.

Diagnostic Visits
A field diagnostic survey on coconut slug caterpillar was under
taken by the technical team of HRS, Ambajipeta in S.Chikkala,
Digamarru, Baggeswaram, Dagguluru, Lankala Koderu, Mentepudi
villages of Veeravasaram mandal of West Godavari district and held
a farmer scientist interaction about the pest and suggested control
measures to the local farmers on 30.05.2018.
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.),
HRS, Ambajipeta participated in rugose spiralling
whitefly awareness meeting and a demonstration
on the feasibility of using Drone technology in
rugose spiralling whitefly management on
24.05.2018 at Kadiyapulanka village. The demon-
stration was also attended by the Dr.P.Chowdappa, Director, ICAR- CPCRI,
Kasaragod, Dr.J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr.YSRHU and
Dr.B.V.K.Bhagawan, Zonal Research Head, HRS, Kovvur.
Dr. L.Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Periyavaram visited
Ramasastry Kandriga village as follow up to FLD on Brinjal IPM field
on 23.05.2018 and observed that the damage due to fruit and shoot
borer was 12-20 percent in the treatment plots against 22.40 per
cent in farmers practice.
Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist, Veterinary Science, KVK, Periyavaram visited
Bangarupeta village of Venkatagiri mandal on 29.05.2018 and
observed buffalo suffering from sequel of uterine prolapsed second
time five months after parturition. It was unable to pass dung, not
feeding properly and was very weak. Feeding of laxative (mustard oil
with ajwain and jiggery) along with inj. Belamyl 10 ml IM, bolus
Ecotas and feeding of Agrimin forte @ 50g/day was suggested.
KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted World Honey bee day on 24.05.2018
in collaboration with ITDA and NABARD, East Godavari District at
Youth Training Centre, Maredumilli. Sri. Vinod Kumar, IAS, Sub-
Collector, Rampachodavaram attended as chief guest and explained the
importance of the Honey Bee Keeping in the agency area and
requested KVK, Pandirimamidi for technical support. An exhibition on
beekeeping equipment, accessories and activities was arranged for creating awareness among the
tribal people.

Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), Dr.K.Mamatha, Sr. Scientist
(Hort.), Dr.R.Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur and Smt.
Neelima, Horticulture Officer visited polyhouse at Chagallu on
24.05.2018 and also at Vemagiri on 22.05.2018. Interacted with
the chrysanthemum farmers, flower bud abscission was observed
due to insufficient short day periods and higher temperatures.
Explained the farmer regarding the maintenance of polyhouse, blackout treatment and measures to
be taken up for reducing the temperature for off season flowering and higher yields. Also observed
white fly, thrips, leaf miner, mealy bug and spodoptera infestation and recommended suitable
control measures.
Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani,
Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvur conducted diagnostic survey in banana,
chilli, crossandra, guava, tuberose and brinjal fields at Eethakota and
Velicheru villages of East Godavari district on 16.05.2018. Incidence of
rhizome rot disease was observed in banana cv.Kovvurbontha at Eetha-
kota village. Heavy infestation of fruit borer was observed in guava crop
and fruit and shoot borer problem in brinjal at velicheru village. Suggested the management
measures for the pest and disease problems to the farmers.
On 27.05.2018, Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science), HRS,
Venkataramannagudem observed adult Pomerarian dog which is suffering from
dry cough and inappetance and treated with inj. Avil, I/M, inj. Melonex, I/M and
oral administration of corex syrup for 3 days.
Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK,
Venkataramannagudem has visited the shrimp farm located at Peda-
kodorluprolu on 27.05.2018 and found the dissolved oxygen (DO)
problem. Suggested to go for partial harvest and application of
probiotics through feed and increase the usage of aerators during
daytime also to reduce the DO problem.
Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Sci.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem has visited the
fish farm at Kommugudem on 29.05.2018 and analysed the dead common carp & water quality
parameters of pond and suggested to apply lime @ 100 kgs; Salt @ 50 kgs; Oxygen tablets @ 5 nos.
From 25.05.2018 to 29.05.2018, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head and
Dr. S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited four
established beekeeping units at Kothapakala, Seethapalli, Chikilinta
villages and observed wax moth infestation and suggested suitable
control measures.
On 17.05.2018, Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist, Veterinary Science, KVK, Periyava-
ram conducted follow up visit to Super Napier field at Kuppayapalem
village of Dakkili mandal to monitor the growth of the fodder crop. The
crop was 10 feet height and ready for multiplication.

On Farm Trials
Technical team of KVK, Periyavaram procured colocasia var. KCS-3
mother corms from HRS, Kovvuru and distributed them to Manne-
gunta farmers of Venkatagiri mandal, as a part of OFT on 19th May
2018. Farmers were suggested to treat the seed material with coc @
50g and monocrotophos@25ml/10l water as seed treatment
solution.
Method Demonstration
Demonstration on tractor operated chaff cutter was given to the
AICRP on Palms scientists along with Project Coordinator on Palms,
Dr.Maheswarappa and Dr.B.N. Rao, Principle Scientist, IIOPR on
26.05.2018 during the visit to Horticultural Research Station,
Vijayarai.
Soil Samples
Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist (Agricultural Extension), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem visited Nachugunta and Venkataramannagudem villages and
collected soil samples in paddy fields on 26.05.2018.
On 29.05.2018, Dr. S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Pandirimamidi
identified the beneficiaries for CFLD redgram and collected soil samples
from Labbarthi village of Rajavommangi Mandal.
Household Survey
On 25.05.2018 and 28.05.2018, Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist along
with technical team of KVK, Pandirimamidi visited
Sokulagudem village of Rampachodavaram mandal and Veduru-
paka village of Gokavaram mandal of East Godavari district
respectively as a part of House Hold Survey/village adaption for
Doubling Farmers Income. In this survey Dr. A. Srinivas
addressed the farmers regarding role of the KVK, ongoing
activities and discussed with the farmers regarding the adoption of villages and all the scientists
have collected the information of 50 households and said that the tribal farmers are going to
implement the activities of KVK to double the farmers income. About 70 farmers have participated.
General
Meetings
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr. Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta attended the 27th Annual Group
meeting of AICRP on Biological Control from 17th -18th May, 2018 at Kerala Agricultural University,
Thrissur and presented the work done during the year 2017-18 HRS, Ambajipeta was selected as
the voluntary centre of AICRP on biological control.

Dr.P.Vinay Kumar Reddy, Asst. Prof (Hort.) participated in two days review cum workshop
programme on ELP modules conducted at Dr.Y.S.Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry,
Solan from 25.05.2018 to 26.05.2018.
Dr.G.Ramanandam, Principal Scientist, (Hort.), Dr. E. Padma, Scientist (Hort.) and Smt. B.Neeraja,
Scientist (Path.), HRS, Ambajieta and Dr. B. V. K. Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS,
Kovvur attended the 27th Annual Group meeting of AICRP on Palms from 23rd -26th May, 2018 at
IIOPR, Pedavegi and presented of work done for the year 2017-18 and technical programme for
2018-19 being organized by the Project Coordinator, ICAR- AICRP on Palms, Kasaragod.
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr. Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta acts as special invitee and involved in
the discussions on pest management technical session of AICRP on palms.
Dr.M.Kalpana, (Hort.) & Head, Vijayarai attended 27th Annual workshop on AICRP palms, conducted
at IIOPR, Pedavegi, West Godavari District during 24th-26th May 2018 and presented the approved
technical programme of AICRP on Oil Palm.
Dr.M.Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Smt N.Sreekala, Comptroller and Dr.K.Uma
Jyothi, Associate Dean, CoH, Venkataramannagudem attended a video conference for monitoring of
EAT Module in PFMS on 16.05.2018 at CoH, Venkataramannagudem conducted by Deputy Director
Finance, ICAR, New Delhi.
Dr.K.Uma Jyothi, Associate Dean, CoH, Venkataramannagudem attended a meeting on
“Gnanabhoomi” at District Collectorate, Eluru, West Godavari Dt. on 24th and 31st May 2018 and
discussed about the updation of data in respect of Dr YSRHU.
Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension and Dr.E.Karunasree,
Sr.Scientist & Head, KVK, Venkataramannagudem has participated Advocacy meeting of MSSRF on
Need and Scope for Farming system for Nutrition in Andhra Pradesh on 21.05.2018 at Vijayawada.
Inspections of Nurseries
Dr R.Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), visited Sri Rama Krishna Nursery, Kadiyam and Indian Green nursery, Kadiyapulanka, East Godavari dis-trict on 21.05.2018 as a member in the team of Accreditation and rating of horticulture nurseries under NHB scheme.
Dr.K.Ravindra Kumar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur, Sri.Chttibabu, ADH, Rajahamahendravaram along with NHB team inspected M/s. A.K.S.V.Nursery, Kadiyam and M/s.Sri Sreenivasa Gardens, Kadi-yapulanka for accreditation and rating of nurseries under NHB scheme on 22.05.2018. Evaluated nurseries based on the mainte-nance of scion blocks, nursery plant maintenance, infrastructure facilities, labelling and maintenance of records and registers.
Dr. B. Ramesh Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem inspected nurseries viz., M/s.Sri Veerahanuman Nursery and Gardens at Rajamahendravaram and M/s.Sri Veerahanuman Nursery at Kadiyapulanka, East Godavari District on 23.05.2018.

Nursery, at Kadiyapulanka, and M/s.Aditya Nursery Gardens at Kadiyapulanka, East Godavari

Visits
Dr. V. Damodar Naidu, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, ANGRAU & Mem-
ber, Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU visited Horticultural
Research Station, Ambajipeta on 16.05.2018 and reviewed the
ongoing research projects and interacted with the scientists and
complemented the scientists for their efforts for mass multiplica-
tion of bioagents and planting material and supply to the farmers.
On 17.05.2018 Dr. V.Damodar Naidu, Vice Chancellor, ANGRAU
visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pandirimamidi and HRS, Pandiria-
mamidi. Interacted with scientists regarding the activities and
trainings conducted, visited demonstration units at KVK,
Palmyrah processing unit and appreciated the activities taken up
by KVK and HRS for the farming community.
Fifty three Students of Sri Krishna Devaraya College of Horticul-
tural Sciences, Ananthapuramu accompanied by teaching
faculty visited HRS, Ambajipeta, HRS, Kovvur and CoH, Venkata-
ramannagudem on 17.05.2018 as part of educational tour and
were explained about the ongoing research activities in crop
improvement, crop production, plant protection and quality
seedling production and mass multiplication of bio-agents for
the control of pests and diseases of coconut.
The second year B.Sc Agricultural students of J.C.Diwakar Reddy
Agricultural College, Tadipatri, ANGRAU visited CoH and PHTRS,
Venkataramannagudem as a part of A.P Educational Tour on 22nd
May 2018. Dr.A Harvshavardhan, Asst Prof (Hort.) accompanied
them and explained about various activities going on at CoH,
Venkataramannagudem.
Dr.ElinaApsara, Principal Scientist (Hort), CPCRI, RS, Vittal and Dr.
J.S Mimmole ,Senior Scientist ( Hort), Cocoa Research Station, Kerala
Agricultural University, Vellanikkara, Kerala visited Cocoa Clonal
Garden on 25.5.2018 at HRS, Vijayarai.
Dr. M.L.N. Reddy, Dean of Horticulture visited CoH, Anantharajupeta on
30.05.2018. Inspected the laboratories, library and instructional farms
of all the departments and experimental plots of PG students, inspected
the progress of civil works and addressed the students. Instructed the
faculty to maintain high standards in academics and take the
responsibility of giving wide exposure to the students regarding scope
and opportunities in the field of Horticulture.

Project Co-ordinator on Palms along with AICRP scientists visited HRS,
Vijayarai on 26.05.2018. The scientists of HRS, Vijayarai briefed about the
activities of the station and AICRP experiments conducted at HRS,
Vijayarai.
Dr. B. Babu Rao, Research Associate, PHTRS, Venkataramannagudem
explained about the preparation of mixed fruit jam and tomato ketchup to an
entrepreneur Sri M. Sri Rama Krishna from Guntur District who has visited on
30.05.2018.
Dr. D.V. Swami, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, PHTRS, Venkataraman-
nagudem explained about the functioning of processing machinery, ripen-
ing chambers and value added products at integrated pack house unit to
Satish Nagaraji, Manager, Digital Agriculture (M&E and tools) from ICRI-
SAT, Hyderabad visited on 30.05.2018.
Dr. B. Babu Rao, Research Associate, PHTRS, Venkataramannagudem
explained about the functioning of processing machinery at integrated
pack house unit and demonstrated the preparation of dehydrated
products as a part of training programme to B.Sc. MBN Students (31no.)
from Ch.S.D.St. Theresa’s Automomous College for Women, Eluru, West
Godavari on 30.05.2018.

Dr. B. Ramesh Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem attended phone-in-live
programme on “Kothaga vesukune pandla thotala yajamanyam” at Dooradarshan Kendra, Vijay-
awada on 17.05.2018.
Dr.R.Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur attended phone-in-live programme on
“Varshakalam lo Poolasaagu” at Doordarshan Kendra, Vijayawada on 31.05.2018.

Dr. G. Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Ambajipeta attended recording on “Kobbari
Saaguku Anuvaina Rakalu – Yajamanya Paddathulu” at All India Radio, Visakhapatnam on
16.05.2018 which was broadcasted on 17.05.2018.
Obituary
Smt. Neelapala Saraswati, Timescale worker at CoH, Venkataramannagudem expired on 24.05.2018.
All the staff and time scale workers offered condolences to the bereaved family.
