Download and Installation Instructions for Oracle Database Client 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.2.0) Part I – Download Instructions

Download the 11gR2 Oracle Database Client software

To download the 11gR2 Oracle Database Client software to install, go to the Cal Poly SRS page:

Navigation: my.calpoly -> Technical Service Request -> Software Requests

The most current release for Oracle Client software install on a Windows-based system is 11.2.0.2. For Linux-based systems, the most current release is 11.2.0.3.

Oracle Database 11g (11.2.0.3.0) for Linux64:

Choose the “Oracle Client 11.2.0.3 - 64bit for Linux” option

Oracle Database 11g Client (11.2.0.2.0) for Microsoft Windows 32-bit:

Choose the “Oracle Client 11.2.0.2 - 32bit for Windows” option

Oracle Database 11g Client (11.2.0.2.0) for Microsoft Windows 64-bit:

Choose the “Oracle Client 11.2.0.2 - 64bit for Windows” option

1. Determine which platform you will be installing the Oracle client software on (eg. Windows 32-bit, Windows 64-bit or Linux 64-bit).

2. You must be logged in as an Administrative user and your monitor must be configured to display at least 256 colors or higher.

3. Go to SRS and download the appropriate 11g client to a temporary location, such as C:\temp, and unzip the folder.

4. Go to the unzipped client folder and double click on setup.exe. This will start the Oracle Universal Installer.

5. Decide if you want to install the Oracle “Instant” client or the Oracle “Runtime” client.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install the client. For reference, below is a log from a Windows 32-but installation for both the Instant client and the Runtime client.

After double-clicking on setup.exe, it will take a few minutes for the Oracle Installer to display the following “File Download – Security Warning” window:

Click “Run”

Following are screen prints for an “InstantClient” installation:

Select “InstantClient” and click “Next”

Enter or “Browse” to the location you want to use. A typical installation path is illustrated above.

This window just shows a status bar that you will see. No action is necessary at this point.

Review the Global Settings and click “Install”

You will see this status window. It will progress through all of the items under “Status” until it has completed the installation. When it’s complete, you’ll receive the following window:

After a successful installation, click “Close”

Following are screen prints for a “Runtime” client installation:

Select “Runtime” and click “Next”

Select “Skip software updates” and click “Next”

“English” will already be selected; click “Next”

Enter or “Browse” to the location you want to use. A typical installation path is illustrated above.

This window just shows a status bar that you will see. No action is necessary at this point.

Review the Global Settings and click “Install”

You will see this status window. It will progress through all of the items under “Status” until it has completed the installation. When it’s complete, you’ll receive the following window:

After a successful installation, click “Close”
