Douglas Tilden Born: May 1, 1860-Died:August 4, 1935.

Douglas became ill with scarlet fever at the age of four, as a result he became deaf-mute.

He was the son of William Peregrine Tilden, M.D., and Catherine Hecox Tilden. He had no known siblings

He was born in Chico, California, but at the age of 28 he embarked to Paris. He later returned to California after studying sculpture in Paris.

He is known for being a world famous sculpture. Some of his many artworks are “Football Players”, “Bear Hunt”, “Mechanics Monument” and “Admission Day.”

Even though Douglas was deaf, this didn’t usually affect the way people treated him.

Douglas Tilden showed that deaf people can still be successful and do the things they love. He showed that deaf people are people too and that they can do some amazing things.
