THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

The Thai Community Development Center was

founded in 1994 on the idea that all peoples

have a basic right to a decent standard of

living and quality of life. Since its establishment,

Thai CDC has addressed the multifaceted

needs of Thai and other disadvantaged

immigrants faced with substandard housing

conditions and lack of access to basic health

services, education and quality employment

opportunities.

THE MISSION OF THAI CDC

IS TO ADVANCE THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC

WELL-BEING OF LOW AND MODERATE INCOME

INDIVIDUALS IN THE GREATER LOS ANGELES

AREA THROUGH A BROAD AND

COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

STRATEGY INCLUDING HUMAN RIGHTS

ADVOCACY, AFFORDABLE HOUSING, ACCESS

TO HEALTHCARE, PROMOTION OF SMALL

BUSINESSES, NEIGHBORHOOD EMPOWERMENT

AND SOCIAL ENTERPRISES.

GOALS

Our community economic

development strategy consists of ten

separate but integrated goals:

1. To empower and improve working

conditions for low-income and

exploited workers, especially those

working in inhumane conditions;

2. To promote the rights of Thai

Americans, as well as advocate for fair

labor and immigration policies;

3. To provide and ensure access to

culturally sensitive social services;

4. To develop leadership among Thai

Americans through community service;

5. To find innovative ways to uplift low

income individuals;

6. To promote economic stability

through financial literacy, entrepreneur-

ship training, small business develop-

ment, and individual development ac-

counts;

7. To engage in community asset

building that will create jobs and

provide micro-enterprise opportunities;

8. To develop affordable housing;

9. To revitalize public space through

reinvestment, community beautification,

and placemaking projects; and

10. To utilize cultural tourism and

heritage marketing activities as a

vehicle for economic development.

Making our mark in the community

Thai CDC successfully obtained a City

of Los Angeles designation of Thai Town,

the only municipally designated Thai

enclave in the country.

Thai CDC developed the Halifax and

Palm Village Apartments providing 106

units of affordable housing to low-

income individuals, families and seniors.

Thai CDC contributed to the start up

and development of hundreds of Thai

owned businesses through its Asian

Pacific Islander Small Business Program

(API-SBP).

Thai CDC helped over 400 victims of

human trafficking win redress and

restitution, including the victims from

the famed El Monte Case considered

the first case of modern day slavery in

the United States.

The SERI Project (Slavery Eradication and

Rights Initiative) assists Thai victims of human

trafficking. Since 1995, one year after Thai

CDC’s founding, we have assisted over 400

Thai victims of the most severe form of

exploitation and human rights abuse by

providing an immediate response team.

The relief, education, counseling, and

advocacy we provide requires extensive

and comprehensive case management.
