The Site Survey
Can I see for miles in the direction of the prevailing wind?
ETM Solar Works Gay E. Canough
8
You can find the exact location of the site using Google Earth This one is 43° 01’ 36.52” x 75° 19’ 32.41”

Now look up the wind speed and prevailing wind direction using www.awstruewind.com
From Google Earth measurement from Kellogg Rd., I guessed that The hill at Spring Farm is here:

Good guess! Here’s the wind report for that spot:

What’s the Weibull k?
This is a probability chart. It shows the probability that the wind speed will be a certain value, given a mean and shape number k. For example, about 11% of the time the wind speed will be 5.5 m/s.
Visit and read up! http://www.windpower.org/en/tour/wres/weibull.htm

To find out how much energy you can get out of the wind, you have to figure out the power density for each bin in your Weibull histogram and multiply it by time.

This site looks good. Now what?
Is there zoning? Yes Are there height limits? Yes Apply for Variance
No No
Fill out SEQR
Apply for Building permit
If Variance granted
If there is zoning, the Town is the Lead Agency for the SEQR, otherwise it’s NYSERDA
Complete NYSERDA paperwork
Aesthetics issues may kill project at this stage
May not be approved if wind speed less than 10 mph May approve less than 50% of the total cost
Complete utility paperwork Install it
